Result of metamorphism
new minerals grow
minerals deform and rotate
re crystallization of course minerals
rocks become either:
stronger but more brittle
or
weaker and anisotropic

Foliated Metamorphic Rocks
Slate: compact, very fine-
grained, metamorphic rock
with a well-developed
cleavage. Freshly cleaved
surfaces are dull
a: Slate
Phyllite: a rock with a
schistosity in which very fine
phyllosilicates
(sericite/phengite and/or
chlorite), although rarely b: Phyllite
coarse enough to see unaided,
impart a silky sheen to the
foliation surface. Phyllites
with both a foliation and
lineation are very common.
Figure 22.1. Examples of foliated metamorphic rocks. a. Slate. b. Phyllite. Note the difference in reflectance on the foliation surfaces
between a and b: phyllite is characterized by a satiny sheen. Winter (2001) An Introduction to Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology. Prentice
Hall.

Figure 22.1c. Garnet muscovite schist. Muscovite crystals are visible and silvery, garnets occur as large dark porphyroblasts. Winter (2001)

Granoblastic Rocks
Equant Crystals - grains are generally
equidimensional, rather than platy or
elongate

Tekstur diablastik, tekstur yang dicirikan
dengan tidak adanya kesejajaran buturan,
berorientasi radial sampai acak, contoh tekstur
ini adalah:
Tekstur sheaf, tekstur yang memperlihatkan
kelompok butiran yang bercabang.
Tekstur spherolublastik, yaitu tekstur yang
memperlihatkan kelompok butiran yang radial.
Tekstur fibroblastic, tekstur diablastik yang
berukuran sama
Tekstur grano blastik
Tekstur homogranular, merupakan tekstur
yang memperlihatkan ukuran butir yang hamper
sama.
Tekstur heterogranular, merupakan teksture
yang memperlihatkan ukuran butir yang tidak
seragam.
Tekstur heterogranoblastik, merupakan
tekstur yang dicirikan oleh kumpulam mineral
yang sama taapi dengan ukuran yang beragam.
Tekstur tekstur nodularblastik, merupakan
tekstur yang memiliki nodular yang tersusun oleh
mineral kecil dengan satu atau dua mineral
dalam matrik yang memiliki komposisi berbeda.
Klasifikasi Bat.Metamorf Berdasar
Komposisi Kimianya
Calcic Metamorphic Rock
Mg. Contoh : serpentit, sekis.
