What are elements?

Elements are a material that cannot be broken down into any

other material. The periodic table has 118 elements. They are
separated into specific groups. There are 18 groups including
transition metals, alkaline earth metals, lanthanide, and more.
The Components of an Atom
http://sciencing.com/components-atomic-structure-14117.html

The Nucleus - The nucleus of an atom contains most of the atoms mass, and it is composed of
neutrons and protons, which are referred to as nucleons.

The Protons - Protons are particles, positively charged, found in the atoms nucleus.

The Neutrons - Neutrons are particles, neutral charged, which share the atoms nucleus with
protons.

The Electrons -Electrons are particles, negatively charged, that orbit the nucleus of the atom.
The Periodic Table
Do some research on your
section of the periodic table of
elements. Paraphrase all of the
information you find, and
include an in-text citation
Section behind each piece of
information. Make sure you can

found if asked questions. (So
make sure you understand it!)

Noble The six noble gases are found in group 18 of the
periodic table. These elements were considered to be

Gasses
inert gases until the 1960's, because their oxidation
number of 0 prevents the noble gases from forming
compounds readily. All noble gases have the maximum
number of electrons possible in their outer shell making
them stable.
Any of the gaseous elements helium, neon,
argon, krypton, xenon, and radon, occupying Group 0 of
the periodic table. They were long believed to be totally
unreactive but compounds of xenon, krypton, and radon
are now known. Noble gases are colourless, odourless,
tasteless, and nonflammable gases.
Any of the series of fifteen
metallic elements from actinium
to lawrencium in the periodic
table. All of the elements are
radioactive and unstable . A
series of radioactive waves in
group 3 of the periodic table.
Members of the series are often

Actinides called actinides.

Alkali Metals

cesium, and francium, whose
hydroxides are alkalis.
An element whose properties
are average of metals and solid
nonmetals. They look like
metal, but are fragile. The
Metalloids most common element is
oxygen. The second most
common is silicon. Silicon also
is the most common metalloid.

the state of matter might
have changed from the
original elements.
Water is made up of two
atoms of hydrogen and one
atom of oxygen.

The formula to make water is

2H2 + O2 = 2H2O + Energy

Hydrogen is a chemical
element with chemical

Water symbol H and atomic

number 1. Hydrogen is the
lightest element on the
periodic table.

Hydrogen doesnt belong to

any family of elements but,
its on the left side of the
periodic table.
Nitrogen is a chemical element with the
Symbol N. Under normal conditions
nitrogen is colorless, odorless and
tasteless gas. Nitrogen is a gas and its
atomic number is 7. Hydrogen is an
essential element of our world.
Hydrogens symbol is the periodic table
is H. It is atomic number 1. Hydrogen is
odorless, colorless, and tasteless.
Nitrogen+Hydrogen=Ammo Ammonia or also called Azane, the
formula is NH3. Ammonia could be
nia used as a housecleaner. Ammonia is
very light. Air is twice as heavy as
ammonia.
Sodium
Chloride
The two elements that we added together were
Sodium and Chlorine. This makes Sodium
Chloride Sodium is number 11 on the Periodic
table and Chlorine is number 17 on the Periodic
table. Is a colorless crystalline compound
occurring naturally in seawater and halite. Common
salt. Sodium Chloride is the sixth most abundant
metal in the Earths crust. Odium is actually found
in most minerals, and can be very dangerous.
The elements that make up Magnesium Oxide are
Magnesium Oxide Magnesium and Oxygen. Magnesium Oxide is a solid.

Magnesium- A white-silver metallic element that

produces a white light when it burns.

Oxygen- The chemical element of atomic 8. Oxygen is

a colorless, odorless reactive gas.

Each magnesium atom gives two electrons to an

oxygen atom, so magnesium oxide is made of
magnesium ions, Mg2+, and oxide, O2ions.

Potassium oxide
Its original states are gas and solid. The 2 elements are oxygen and
potassium.Oxygen is a gas, and Potassium is a solid. Potassium is 18th on the
periodic table of elements and oxygen is 8th on the periodic table of elements. It
turned into a solid after the chemical reaction. It would stay as a solid and would not
change into a gas or liquid. This source is from Potassium Oxide
Zinc
Chloride

Zinc is a solid which

Chlorine is gas and that gets
you Zinc chloride which is a
solid. Zinc is a transition
metal and chlorine is a
halogen. The abbreviation is
ZnCl. There are crystallines
in Zinc Chloride.
The elements that made up this
chemical reaction were cobalt and

Cobalt bromide.

Cobalt- Its symbol is Co, its atomic

Dibromide number is 27, and it is a solid.

Bromide- Its symbol is Br, its

atomic number is 35, and its a
liquid.
We used several
These elements combine to make a

and Bromide combine to make a
