INTRODUCTION OF ESSAYS

Patrick Eash
By Hunter Gage
Hey!
Do you know what D.A.R.E is?

Its a group of people who come to

schools to explain problems, why they
happen, and how to stop or fix them. I will
explain what I learned about and how this
knowledge will help in the future! More
specifically; drugs, bullying and
communication. This is Hunter Gage, and
here is what I learned in D.A.R.E.
So first off, I am going to be explaining bullying.
So basically bullying can be because:
1. They may have a bad memory, and bullying makes them
feel better.
2.They want to be like their friends, so they do what
their friends do.
3. (the most likely case) they think its funny.

If you are getting bullied, or see someone getting

bullied, then tell a trusted adult. If youre afraid
of getting bullied for reporting a bully, then be
anonymous.
What does anonymous mean? Anonymous means
you report bullying, but no one knows it was you.
For example, you write a note for the teacher,
but you dont put your name on it. To do that,
just say me, or I. or make a phone call but dont
tell them your name. If youre a witness bullying,
but dont tell anyone, then youre a bystander.
Dont be a bystander. I will use this information
in the future to help stop bullying in its tracks.
Ok, so let's talk about drugs. Now, there are
good drugs, and there are bad drugs. The good
drugs, are the medicine that your parents give
you when you are sick. But dont take those
drugs without your parent or guardians
permission and supervision! And there are bad
drugs. Those ones are against the law.
Now, if anyone asks you to take drugs, say, NO!
They can damage your heart, give you heart
attacks, hurt your brain, hurt your lungs, give you
CANCER, and once youve taken it, its really hard
to stop. The chemicals can be addicting, and once
you stop, it can make you sick with chemical
withdrawal while your body gets use to the
chemicals not being in your body! (huff) I will use
this knowledge to make sure that I, and others,
wont do drugs.
The last thing I am going to talk about is,
communication. I dont have much to say about this
one. So basically, just listen to other people when
theyre talking to you.
Some ways to see if someone is not listening are,
1. Their eyes are wandering.
2.theyre doing something distracting in their hands, like,
playing a video game.

To show that you are listening,

1. Look them in the eye.
2. Briefly repeat what they said back to them.
3. Ask a question or two.
Ok, so quick review, report bullying. It can
really help a person. Dont do drugs, or there will
be MAJOR consequences. And just listen to
other people. So that's all I have, I will see you
later. Thanks for listening!

Thank you!

Did you know that there are more than
75,000 alcohol related deaths each year in
the U.S.?
Wow, Im glad Im not one! I learned a lot
in dare so I picked a couple to share with
you!
Drugs and Alcohol
Did you know that there are more than 200
known harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke?
Officer Eash taught me that there are many
different kinds of drugs, legal and illegal. Legal
means that you can have them in the U.S. Illegal
means that you can NOT have them in U.S.
Alcohol slows the body down brain and body.
Never try do drugs or alcohol.
Dare Decision Making Model
I also learned how to make the right decision
by using the Dare Decision Making Model.
This is for if you ever are faced with a
problem challenge or opportunity.
D is for define describe the problem, challenge or
opportunity.
A is for asses what are you choices.
R is for respond make a choice, use the facts and
information you have gathered.
E is for evaluat, review did you make a good choice!
This will help you stay out of trouble as you
Here, I will give you an example say your
best friend is getting bullied on the bus, You
see it happen. Start with describe the
problem, that your best friend is getting
bullied. Next, to assess, you could tell the bus
driver, stand up for him/her or write a letter
to counselor. To respond, I would write a
letter to the the bus driver. Lastly, to
evaluate, I make a good choice so that it gets
handled properly! That is how easy it is to
make the right choice!
Risky Situations
If you ever get faced with a risky situation, like to
try drugs or alcohol, there are ways to handle it
properly! Here are some strategies for you to use.
1. Changing the subject,If you are asked to try
drugs say No,lets play at the park, instead!
2. Saying no, while giving a reason or excuse like
Would you like some beer? No, thanks my
parents would ground me for life!
3. Walk away Would you like to smoke? No
thanks! These are ways to save your life from
the wrong path.
Now you know not to do drugs or drink
alcohol, how to use the Dare Decision Making
Model to make the right decisions, and ways
to stay away from drugs!
Thank you for coming to hear my
speech,Have a good afternoon!

Hi, my name is Jillian and I am going to
tell you about how drugs harm people. I
am informed that you will learn new
stuff about how drugs harm people in
many ways!
Cigarettes and alcohol

Alcohol is illegal for anyone under the age of

21, it harms the teens body because their
body is still growing. Also, if you didnt know
there are more than 200 known harmful
chemicals in cigarette smoke. Mixing alcohol
with medicine is dangerous for the human
body in many ways. More than 400,000
Americans died from tobacco. Cigarettes
Health effects of alcohol use

Alcohol slows down the brain and body. Drinking

alcohol can induce memory loss. Also, alcohol
can cause slow reflexes and poor judgement.
There are signs to look for to be able to tell
when people are doing drugs. Some signs are
as follows: lose interest in school, become
moody, negative, and cranky. Alcohol weakens
Health effects of alcohol use

Too much alcohol can slow down the body and

lead to coma and death. Also if you drink way
too much alcohol, you may have to get charcoal
pumped into your stomach to help soak up the
poisons.
Facts about tobacco use

In the United States, it is illegal to sell tobacco

products to anyone under the age of 18 (19 in
some states). Did you know that smoking is
the leading preventable cause of death in this
country? Smoking causes heart disease and
mouth cancer.
I hope you learned about how
drugs harm people in multiple
ways. Make sure you stay away
from drugs and never let
anyone talk you into doing
drugs! Make sure you stay out
of trouble. And please help each

Everyone knows smoking is bad for your lungs.

It could kill your lungs, cigarettes can put a hole in

your neck. Cigarettes smell bad. everyone knows
alcohol can be some sort of chemical and can kill
anything that drinks it and alcohol can only be
drunk by adults not by KIDS and alcohol can be a
dangerous liquid to all animals and peoples never
give animals and peoples THAT STUFF.
In D.A.R.E., I learned to help take care of others in
need and taking care of my 8 month old brother.
that's how responsible Ill be. Then I learned, it is
sometimes difficult to say no to my friends
especially because they could be my best friends or
they could be special to me. If they ask me to smoke
or drink, I would change the subject. I learned the
three signs of stress are red faced, sweaty palms,
and yelling out stop.
Understanding drugs and why they are dangerous is
another good step for a kid to take. I know that
drugs are chemicals that change the way a person's
body works and you've probably heard that drugs are
bad for you, but what does that mean and why are
they bad? When people talk about a drug problem,
they usually mean abusing legal drugs or using illegal
drugs, such as marijuana, cocaine, LSD, crystal meth,
and heroin .
I learned to communicate confidently. I will be
confident and respectful when I am communicating
with friends and family. A good communication skill
would be confidence. I also learned that nonverbal
communication is a physical action form and body
language that goes along with communication
techniques. Paying attention and making eye contact
are a few more ways of positive communication.
Stop the bully and use the 5 ws. finally, i learned
that when my friends help me I feel like a good
citizen and when I help others they feel like a good
citizen. As a good citizen, it is up to me to help
others. I learned the 5 ways of safely reporting are
who, what, when, where and why. I feel like a good
citizen. As a good citizen, it is up to me to help
others in need.m y So please make good choices with
