DEVELOPMENT AND

IMPACT OF THE
INTERNET
Throughout the twentieth century, the
United States was a leader in developing
new technology.

One innovation resulted in worldwide

changes in communications, education,
business and entertainment.

This innovation was the

THE WORLD BEFORE
THE INTERNET
Examples of what people used to do back in
the days when there was no internet:

Wait for photos to be developed

Watch TV with our families
Go to the video shop to rent a
film
Look at paper maps
Get the news once a day
Look in the phone book
WHAT WOULD THE WORLD BE LIKE
TODAY IF WE NEVER HAD THE
INTERNET?

Much more talking and meeting, much less tweeting

and Facebooking.

It would be a much better place to live in.

A bit more focused on things that really matter.

Less impulsive.

We would be less knowledgable but far more directly,

personally and meaningfully communicative.
THE INVENTION OF
THE INTERNET
Thehistory of the Internetbegins with the
development of electronic computers in the
1950s.

The US Department of Defense awarded

contracts as early as the 1960s for packet
network systems, including the development
of theARPANET.

The first message was sent over the ARPANET

from computer science Professor Leonard
Kleinrock's laboratory at
WHY WAS THE INTERNET INVENTED
The Internet began as a project to connect
researchers at several universities and in
government departments. It was based on a new
idea about how to send information from one place
to another.

The Internet evolved from ARPANET (Advanced

Research Projects Agency Network), an effort
supported by the United States Department of
Defense. The developers of ARPANET wanted to
make communication between separate computer
systems at various universities and research
laboratories more convenient.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTERNET AND
THE
WORLD WIDE WEB
The Webnow considered to be a major driver of the
way society accesses and views informationis the
result of numerous projects in computer networking,
mostly funded by the federal government, carried out
over the last 40 years.

The projects produced communications protocols that

define the format of network messages, prototype
networks, and application programs such as
browsers.
Early Steps: 1960-1970
Approximately 15 years after the first computers
became operational, researchers began to realize
that an interconnected network of computers could
provide services that transcended the capabilities of
a single system.

Computers were becoming increasingly powerful,

and a number of scientists were beginning to
consider applications that went far beyond simple
numerical calculation.

Expansion of the Arpanet: 1970-1980

The ARPANET evolved in a number of unanticipated
directions during the 1970s.

From Arpanet to Internet

Although the ARPANET was ARPA's largest networking effort, it
was by no means the only one.

The result was TCP/IP, first described in 1973 at an International

Network Working Group meeting in England.

Emergence of the Web: 1990 to the Present

Digital transmission became possible throughout the telephone

network with the deployment of optical fiber, and the telephone
companies leased their broadband digital facilities for
connecting routers and regional networks to the developers of
the computer network.

In April 1995, all commercialization restrictions on the Internet

were lifted. Then the invention of the Web catapulted the
Internet to mass popularity almost overnight.
E IMPACT OF THE INTERNET IN SOCIE
The Internet is the decisive technology of the
Information Age, and with the explosion of wireless
communication in the early twenty-first century, we
can say that humankind is now almost entirely
connected, albeit with great levels of inequality in
bandwidth, efficiency, and price.

Have you wondered what happens on the internet in 60

seconds?

701, 389 people are active on Facebook

347, 222 new posts on Twitter
38,052 new photos on Instagram
20.8 millions of new messages on Whatsapp
150 millions of emails are sent
2.78 millions of videos watched on Youtube

receive informationacross large
matrixof computer systems. Throughemail service,
we can send messages for both business and
personal purposes.

Internet has opened doors forvirtual online offices.

Take virtual courses or tutorials about almost

everything.

We cansend birthday greeting cardsthrough the

internet.

We can usesocial media applicationson our

personal computer and mobile devices. In this way,
we can reconnect to our old school friends.
DISADVANTAGES OF
INTERNET
Theinternet is not free. Sometimes, it hurts while
paying bills.

Thephysical distance among lovedones is

increasing.

Somewhere theemotional connect between people

are missing.

We feelhelpless when the internet connection is

down.

We always remain engaged with many online

activities such as checking emails, socializing,
chatting, online shopping, business-deals, etc.We
THE USE OF INTERNET NOWADAYS
Today, the Internet is one of the most effective and
efficient ways to communicate.
The internet gives us the opportunity to connect with
all kinds of different people, to read news and
information from all over the world. While the Internet
has many good qualities, and can be very useful, it
can also be a source of trouble, for example sharing
information we should not share.

Today internet is used for different purposes

depending upon the requirement. Here is the list of
the best uses of the internet:

1. COMMUNICATION
At the moment the easiest thing that can be done
using the internet is that we can communicate with
2. RESEARCH
Since the internet came into life, everything is
available just a click away. You just have to search for
the concerned topic and you will get hundreds of
references that may be beneficial for your research.

3. EDUCATION
Education is one of the best things that the internet
can provide. There are a number of books, reference
books, online help centers, experts views and other
study oriented material on the internet that can make
the learning process very easier as well as a fun
learning experience.
4. FINANCIAL TRANSACTION
Now you dont need to stand in the queue at the
branch of your particular bank rather you can just log
in on to the bank website then can do any transaction
related to finance at your will

5. REAL TIME UPDATES

There are various websites on the internet which
provides you with the real time updates in every field
be it in business, sports, finance, politics,
