David Hockney, Born: 1937, Yorkshire.
Hockney lived most his life in California and London. Now he still
lives in California

He has four galleries in 2017. He has one in England, California


and New York. He also has three exhibitions. Two are in London
and one in the UK.
Quote:
With chemical film, it was possible to alter
photographs, but you had to be an expert.
That's not true any more. The LA Times fired a
photographer at the beginning of the Iraq War
for editing two shots together. Photography is
crumbling. Certainly it is for the newspapers a
bit now, isn't it? There will be painting again,
absolutely!.
Their early years
Mr. Hockney studied at Bradford School of Art in
1953 until 1957. At Bradford he received training
on drawing from life ,figures ,portraits ,and
cityscapes.
In 1959, Mr. Hockney went to Royal College of
Arts. Where he later meet a lot of now famous
people.
He won in the Junior Section at John Moores
Liverpool in 1961.
History
Mr. Hockney is openly gay.
In 1961 he made his first homosexual art.
He first started his art in painting then later
moved on to photography.
Mr. Hockney abandoned painting to work with
photography extensively in 1970s

His work involves cubism and figurative
painting
Mr. Hockneys work involves a lot of personal
subject matters.
His work also involves people and nature.

Description: David Hockney is shown in this picture. He did a self portrait of himself using different angle. Each picture taken
from different angel is then mixed into just one picture. Each little picture has different sizes and different lighting. Most
pictures are up close. He is smoking a half way cigarette. His facial expression are with a serious tone. He is not smiling or
making direct eye contact.
Composition Analysis:
Contrast is found by the lighting of each individual picture compared to other pictures.
Unity is found by the wholeness found by the whole work. If one picture is removed then work is not complete.

Description: There is a river full of rocks inside and round it. There are a lot of colorful and dull looking plants in
the background. There are a lot of lines within the art work since they are created by each individual picture.
Around the outside of the river there is a different value that is light to dark and low contrast. In the river the
value is dark to light and high contrast.

Unity is found by the individual pictures combined to create the final look.

Why it is my favorite: The contrast in each picture shows a different


perspective of the pool. Also each picture is changed in a different view but all
the picture together make a weird view of the pool.
