Professional Development

Reflection

Professional Development is looked at as being very important within our school.

We want to offer teachers with every opportunity they can to grow, from new ways
to present lessons to managing student behaviors and interventions. Professional
development opportunities are offered monthly, and may take place at the school,
or at other locations dependent upon the material to cover. Each teach is asked to
accumulate at least 24 hours of professional development, with most activities
accumulating up to 3 hours each. Professional development on all subject areas is
offered highlighting the most up-to-date ways to make lessons creative for the
students and to peak interest in mathematics and other subject areas.
Core Learning

The learning at the core of these professional developments was to ensure that
as a teacher, you are providing every student with the highest possibility of
success. Whether it be learning the ins and outs of how each student operates
and learns, or providing the students with ample technology to be innovators in
the classroom. Strategies are offered on how to approach ideas such as these
and items that can be done if these demands simply are not reaching a student.
Capacity

A lot of the professional developments were

creative in helping the teacher to understand the
subject itself, but some were very lackluster in
their presentation of material. When attending
these meetings, teachers want to be presented
with new, fresh ideas and approaches, not
covering the bases of items we already know and
input.

Being able to be on the same wavelength as the

child, and listening to their understanding of the
subject is a key component to take away from
these professional offerings. With the ability to
do this, you can offer better feedback, determine
most appropriate tools needed for success or
improvement, develop a specific plan for the
learner and place them in the most appropriate
setting for continuous learning to occur.

Risk and Reward
Professional developments have a lot of risks and rewards
attached, so you must search for the right ones to take your skills
as a teacher to the next level. When you find them, provide
others with the secret, because we want every students life to
be positively changed by the manner in which we educate them.
Until we Meet Again

Be the best you can be for your

students. Encourage attendance
at all PDs that will make you a
better teacher and learner of
your students. We are shaping
the future of the 21st century, a
century full of technology and
new approaches that will mold
future generations of
educators.
