INTRODUCTION

OPENING STATEMENT
Education is one of the basic needs for human development and to escape from poverty
(sivakumar and sarvalingam, 2010, p. 20).
Students choices always differ in every aspect of their life especially when in comes to their
decision-making.
GLOBAL ISSUE
The National Career Development Association (NCDA) in the United States in 1993 noted that
Helping individual increase self- understanding of their abilities, interests, values and goals is
a vital foundation of the career development process.
ASEAN ISSUE
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has taken steps to assure the quality of
higher education with Southeast Asian Countries through the ASEAN University Network
(AUN).
NATIONAL ISSUE
Great relevance is focused on scientific and technological knowledge as
well as Vocational Course.
The purpose is to prepare the students for their future career.
In the Philippines, majority of the High School students experience
pressure in making decisions in choosing their course for the tertiary level
of education.
Based on the results of National Career Achievement Examination (NCAE)
most of the students who take this exam ends up with the result of being
undecided.
LOCAL ISSUE
In the Sisters of Mary School , the goal of education is to develop the
talents of the students and to help them come alive mentally, physically,
emotionally and spiritually.
The School is a Technical Vocational Institute wherein students who come
from different backgrounds and have different wants in life are trained in
enhancing their kills.
PURPOSE
To identify the factors that influencing the
course preference of the identified Grade 12
students a key for giving students course
selection guide.
BENEFITS
To help the Sisters of Mary School ARDC
(Administrative Research Development
Center) that would be able to help the
students with their course preference.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to determine the factors influencing Grade 12
students course preference in the Sisters of Mary School Girlstown, Inc.,
as basis for a proposed course selection guide.
1. What are the factors influencing the respondents course preference?
2. How do these factors influence the course preference of the
respondents?
3. To what extent are the respondents influenced by the identified factors
in their course preference?
4. What is the course preference of the respondents?
5. Is there a significant relationship between the course preference and
the extent to which the factors influence the respondents course
preference?
6. Based on the findings of the study, what course selection guide can be
proposed?
ASSUMPTIONS OF THE STUDY
This study assumes that:
1.The possible reasons of the
students contain the factors that
affect their course preference.
HYPOTHESIS
Pertaining to the questions of this study,
the following hypothesis were put to test at
0.05 level of significance.
Ho: There is no significant relationship
between the course preference and the
extent to which the factors influence the
respondents course preference.

POPULATION AND SAMPLING
Purposive non-random sampling
Has the population of seven hundred seventy-six (776)
RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY
Grade 12 Senior Highschool students of the Sisters of Mary School Girlstown
Inc.
Sample Respondents were identified using Slovins Formula which is a random
sampling technique to estimate sampling size, and the ratio and proportion.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
First Phase of the study uses an unstructured interview guide through face to
face interview.
Second Phase of the study uses the Researcher-made survey questionnaire.
