Issue and Challenges of Young
Girls heading the families ( Hungry )
During the 1994
Genocide against the
Tutsi many kids lost their
parents and extended
families. These orphans
often had to assume a
parental role for their
younger brothers and
sisters while still trying
to be kids themselves.
The lack of education
and resources left them
especially vulnerable.
This vulnerability often
results in unwanted
pregnancies, and many
young, single mothers
unable to provide
sufficient childhood care,
including education.
In all this process of luck of money I had become pregnant without even
knowing what being pregnant I was just thought I was sick .I was may be
only under 16 . Janet said

TOGETHER WE SUCCEED
Who We Are
Albert Musabyimana was born in 1978 in
Kamonyi District. He was 16 years old
during the 1994 Tutsi Genocide. Prior to
the Genocide, he lived a happy childhood
with a large extended family, however,
only he and his 2 sisters survived. Having
been the oldest of the surviving siblings,
Albert took on the responsibility of
looking after his younger sisters and
ensuring that they lived a healthy and
happy life, the same way he did before
1994. Albert went on to completing a
bachelors degree at the Kigali Institute of
Science and Technology.
In 2005, Albert was selected
amongst other child headed families
to receive housing as part of an
initiative to support Rwandan youth
that was greatly affected by the 1994
Tutsi Genocide. After receiving his
education and having a home for his
family, Albert decided he needed to
create an initiative that would better
the lives of people that were greatly
affected by the 1994 Tutsi Genocide
so he decided to start the Peace and
Hope Initiative

Effective Early Childhood Development helps kids
at risk of poor development due to a lack of
parental care and learning opportunities to break
free from the poverty cycle in Rwanda.
Peace and Hope Initiative was founded in 2012,
and served 48 children.
But later , in 2015, it serves 140 vulnerable
children.
Our goal is to serve over 400 children by 2016.
CHILDREN'S RIGHTS
Child labor and poverty are inevitably bound together and if you continue to
use the labor of children as the treatment for the social disease of poverty,
you will have both poverty and child labor to the end of time

How does The Peace and Hope Initiative
contribute to the community in Kinyinya? Making
the kids Smart
The Kuranza (meaning
"good growth") project
offers early childcare and
education enabling
underprivileged kids to
learn and play in a safe and
caring environment. Kids
are provided education,
nutrition, counseling,
water and sanitation
services through skilled
caretakers during the key
developmental stages. The
project supports kids from
families with no means to
afford to pay for a nursery
school/kindergarten.
Currently approx. 140 kids
attend the nursery, the aim
is to expand the capacity to
200.
