In this study, the researchers would develop a wind turbine system that would help Filipino houses located in urban areas like subdivisions to have electricity without relying greatly on the grid.
The researchers have chosen to use a diffuser
augmented type wind turbine or commonly known as D.A.W.T. INTRODUCTION
One of the promising advanced concepts for overcoming the economic deterrents to widespread use of wind power is the DAWT(Diffuser- Augmented Wind Turbine).
DAWTs maximize the power output than the other
unshrouded turbine. (according to Foreman and Oman on Diffuser Augmentation Of Wind Turbines, from 1976-1977) OBJECTIVES
To design, develop and fabricate a sustainable wind turbine suitable for providing electricity to residential houses without being dependent on the grid
To produce 200 watts of electrical energy from the
output of this study IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
to the benefit of the society especially minimum wage earners and below in producing a cleaner and cheaper form of energy
to have their own electricity without relying in the
grid of the power companies thermal plant TARGET BENEFICIARIES/CLIENTS
Community to produce their own cheap and cleaner form of energy and avoid high charges incurred by power companies Humanity Clean form of energy means good health. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
According to Herbert, Iniyan, Sreevalsan and Rajapandian on A Review Of Wind Energy Technologies recommended the use of renewable energy resources like wind energy to help reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.
According to Tummala, Velamati, Sinha, Indraja and
Krishna on A Review on Small Scale Wind Turbines, from 2014-2015 they preferred a decentralized small scale wind turbine over the installation of large scale wind farms. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
According to Perez, Marquez, Tobias and Papaelias on Wind Turbine Reliability Analysis, from 2012- 2013 larger wind turbines fail more frequently than smaller ones.
According to Foreman and Oman on Diffuser
Augmentation Of Wind Turbines, from 1976-1977 they proposed one of the promising advanced concepts for overcoming the economic deterrents to widespread use of wind power is the DAWT(Diffuser-Augmented Wind Turbine). SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This study primarily focuses on improving and redesigning the rotor blade and the shape of the diffuser of a diffuser augmented wind turbine or commonly known as DAWT that would best suit the condition of the research locale.
The testing field would be subjected and be limited
only to urban residential areas. Other fields of application like industrial plants, universities and company buildings will not be considered. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The improved turbine shall only be limited to produce and power 200 watts of lighting system only for a single household found in an urbanized residential area. METHODOLOGY
The first part of the study would be the literature review. This phase would be achieved by exhausting all forms of media outlets like books, journals, magazines, articles and the Internet. METHODOLOGY
The second part of this study would involve site data gathering. In this part, the environmental and climatic conditions of the selected house in a subdivision shall be gathered. Conditions to be gathered will be: average wind speed air temperature relative humidity METHODOLOGY
The third part would involve the designing process.
The researchers would apply the data that they have
gathered in the literature review in determining the materials to be used.
Autodesk Inventor shall be used in sketching and
modeling the design. METHODOLOGY
The next part would involve simulation using Autodesk Inventor.
Designing and Simulation would be repeated until
the desired results would be achieved. METHODOLOGY
The next step would be the purchasing of the components, and materials to use in fabricating the desired design of the researchers. After purchasing, the next step would be the assembly and fabrication. In this step the purchased materials would be fabricated solely by the researchers to cut cost. After the fabrication process, testing and evaluation shall follow, alteration with the turbine design shall commence when operation defects and a like shall be found.
