Sensor Fusion in IOT

Internet of Things
(Automate the Humanity)

An Internet of Things
"In the next century, planet earth will don an electronic skin. It
will use the Internet as a scaffold to support and transmit its
sensations.."
-NEIL GROSS is a professor of sociology at Colby College on
Business Week at 1999

Scenario
It is the scenario where people, objects, animals and
even plants are given a unique identifier to transmit
data over a network without requiring human
interaction either human to human or human to
computer.
Example: Imagine your street dustbin sending
message to your municipal office that it is full and
needs to be cleaned without any intervention from
you.

YOUR BODY
Sensors + Connectivity

CHECK ON THE BABY (Mimo monitor ) REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR

MEDS(GLOW CAPS)

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR MEDICATION

TRACK YOUR ACTIVITY LEVELS (The Proteus ingestible pill sensor)
(smart phone Range sensors)

STAY OUT OF THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE

YOUR HOME
Remotely monitor and manage your home and cut down on your monthly bills and resource usage

HEAT YOUR HOME EFFICIENTLY MAKE SURE THE OVEN IS OFF

(Smart thermostats) (Wemo Products)

KEEP YOUR PLANTS ALIVE

LIGHT YOUR HOME IN NEW WAYS
(HARVEST GEEK PRODUCTS)

YOUR CITY
Engage with the data exhaust produced from your city and neighborhood

KEEP STREETS CLEAN STOP DRIVING IN CIRCLES RECEIVE POLLUTION WARNINGS

(Smart Belly Trash) (Smart Belly Trash) (The DontFlushMe project)

USE ELECTRICITY MORE EFFICIENTLY

(The SenseNET system uses LIGHT STREETS MORE EFFECTIVELY
battery-powered clamp sensors ) (smart lighting system )

Arduino VS Raspberry Pi
AnArduinois a microcontroller motherboard. A
microcontroller is a simple computer that can run one
program at a time, over and over again. It is very
easy to use.
ARaspberry Piis a general-purpose computer,
usually with a Linux operating system, and the ability
to run multiple programs

An Arduino board is best used for simple repetitive
tasks: opening andclosing a garage door, reading the
outside temperature and reportingit to Twitter,
driving a simple robot
Raspberry Pi is best used when you need a full-
fledged computer:driving a more complicated robot,
performing multiple tasks, doingintense calculations
(as for Bitcoin or encryption)
A simple rule of thumb:
Think about what you want your project to do. If youcan
describe it with less than two ands, get an Arduino. If
youneed more than two ands, get a Raspberry Pi.
Examples:
I want to monitor my plants and have them Tweet
me when theyneed water. That can best be done by
an Arduino.
I want to monitor my plants and have them Tweet
me when theyneed water and check the National
Weather Service, and if theforecast is for fair
