PRESTRESSING

To introduce internal stresses to counteract the stresses that will result from applied load.
It can be used to produce beams, floors or bridges with a longer span than is practical with ordinary reinforced concrete.

There are two types of prestressing(tensioning)

PRE TENSIONING
Post TENSIONING

3.Wedges Placement of Wedges

Pre Tensioning
Post-tensioning is done at a
project site and requires little
to no modifications of the
same forming system that
would be used to construct
non pre-stressed concrete.
The systems used to post-
tension concrete and masonry
consist of prestressing steel
that is housed inside a duct or
sheath, which allows the
prestressing steel to be Tensioning of Tendons

typical job site formwork at the same time rebar and other reinforcing is placed.
Reinforcing tendons are stretched by jacks whilst keeping them in serted in voids left
pre-hand during curing of concrete.
These spaces are then pumped full of grout to bond steel tightly to the concrete.
Principle of the load-balancing method

Steel tendon are stressed after the concrete has been placed
and gained sufficient strength at the construction site.
