Components and mode of functioning:

The hydrostatic sliding shoe bearing arrangement works on the principle of a plain bearing. During operation
there is no metallic contact between the contact surfaces. The housing protects the bearing shoes and the
contact surface from dust and dirt, and is simultaneously the oil container, with a connecting piece for
returning the oil to the oil supply system.

The bearing shoes are arranged in the lower part of the bearing housing and are supplied with lubricating oil by
the oil supply system. The bearing shoe is supported on the lower part of the bearing housing via an axial
pivoting bearing so that it can wobble and swivel. As the friction occurring between the ball socket and the
spherical segment during relative movements is very small, the bearing shoe easily follows the movements of
the sliding ring.
There are 4 U--shape grooves in the upper side of the bearing shoe for the high pressure oil supply. Each groove
is supplied with a constant oil volume. The oil from the high pressure supply line is divided between the
individual grooves of the bearing shoes by an oil stream splitter. The allocation of the connections from the oil
stream splitter to the grooves is determined in the general arrangement of piped services.

Furthermore, there is a bore in the bearing shoe for receiving the temperature sensor, which must have direct
contact with the bearing metal of the sliding coating thereby monitoring the temperature of said coating. The
oil pressure in the centre of the bearing shoe is monitored by a pressure transmitter.

The bearing shoes in the centre can be adjusted in radial direction by means of an adjusting device. The
adjusting device enables individual bearing shoes to be assembled and dismantled.

The axial guide is hydro dynamically lubricated. A certain number of round sliding pads is provided according to
axial loading. The individual sliding pads are self--aligning and have a bearing metal coating.

For quick and problem--free changing of the bearing shoes, a dismounting device is available which can be
screwed to the segments of the lower housing sections.

Oil Supply for Slide Shoe Bearings

Description of functioning:

The high pressure pumps (91 and 331) force the lubricating oil to the oil flow
dividers (701, 702 and 661 to 664) and then to the bearing shoes of the
hydrostatic sliding shoe bearing arrangement. The flow of lubricating oil is
monitored in the oil flow divider by a speed monitor and the oil pressure is
monitored by the pressure switches (160 and 400). Moreover, the oil pressure is
reduced by pressure limiting valves (140 and 380) in order to avoid overloading
of the system.

The axial guide is supplied with lubricating oil via a separate low pressure pump
(421). The oil flow and the oil pressure are monitored.

NOTE:

To protect the oil storage system from overloading, the pressure limiting valve
(230) and the pressure limiting valves on the gas side of the hydraulic
accumulators are sealed by TV.

Circulation circuit:

The lubricating oil is heated to or maintained at operating temperature in a


separate circulation circuit. The oil pressure and the flow of oil are monitored also
in this circulation circuit.

The gear pump (511) forces the lubricating oil to a double change-over filter (600)
with optical and electric contamination indicator.

In the heat exchanger (610) downstream the temperature of the lubricating oil is
limited to a maximum value. This is achieved in the cooling water feed line with a
solenoid valve (620) which is controlled via a resistance thermometer (70) in the
oil tank.

When the temperature of the lubricating oil is too low, the oil is heated to
operating temperature by radiators (81 to 85) installed in the oil tank.

Oil storage system:

In the hydraulic accumulators (271 and 272) of the oil storage system the
compressibility of the nitrogen is used for storing the lubricating oil.

The hydraulic accumulators consist of a liquid part and a gas part with a bubble
for gas-tight separation. The liquid part is connected to the hydraulic circuit so
that the hydraulic accumulator is filled when the pressure rises and the nitrogen is
therefore compressed.

When the pressure decreases the compressed nitrogen expands thus pushing the
accumulated lubricating oil in the circuit.

The initial nitrogen filling pressure is monitored by pressure switches. The storage
pump (181) forces the lubricating oil in the hydraulic accumulator up to the given
maximum oil pressure.

When the pressure decreases the storage pump is switched on again with a
pressure switch (250) until the given maximum oil pressure is reached again.

Interlocking system and monitoring:

A precondition for switching on the oil supply systems is that an adequate filling
level is available in the oil tank and the oil temperature is higher than 15 C.

In case of failure or malfunction of an oil supply system the bearing shoes are
supplied with oil from the oil storage system. To protect the machine the oil
supply is sufficient for a maximum of 4 minutes.

In case of power failure of the oil supply system the 2/2--way solenoid valves
(291 and 292) for shutting off the hydraulic accumulators are also deenergized
and are therefore opened.

The lubricating oil from the hydraulic accumulators (271 and 272) is pushed via
the flow regulation valves (311 and 312) and the oil flow dividers (701, 702 and
661 to 664) to the bearing shoes.

Components:

In general, each oil supply system consists of:

the oil tank with control monitors,

the circulation circuit with low pressure pump, double change-over filter,
heat exchanger and oil heating,

the oil storage system with the hydraulic accumulators, the high pressure pump
and the respective control monitors,

the high pressure pumps and the oil flow dividers for supplying lubricating oil
to the bearing shoes,

the low pressure pump for supplying lubricating oil to the axial guide,

The oil supply systems are preassembled, adjusted and checked in the
manufacturers workshops.
