1. The Self : Multiple Components of Ones
Identity
Our social identity is extremely important in
defining who we are, what we do, and how we
evaluate ourselves (Brewer, 1991; Deaux, 1993).
Our social identity combines our self-concept and
the various groupings of people with which we
identify-including sex, race, religion, political
affiliation, age, occupation, and so on.
We acquire our self-identify, or self-concept,
primarily through our social interactions, and the
self and its acquisition are matters of long-
standing interest in social psychology (Higgins,
1987; Markus & Wurf, 1987; Suls & Greenwald,
1986).
Self-analysis is the act or process of analysing
oneself.
What is Self ?
Each of us entertains a notion of our
separateness from others and relief on the
essential privacy of our own consciousness. We
usually entertain a notion of the integrity and
completeness of our own experiences.

Self analysis refers to the evaluation of the

self-how favorably a person regards her/how
favorably a person regards her / himself
Self-esteem is the extent to which a person
approves of and accepts her/himself as praise
worthy: either absolutely or in comparison
with other.

2. The Self-Schema and Its Cognitive
Effects
A schema is an organized collection of beliefs
and feelings about some aspect of the world.
Each of us has a self-schema in which our self-
knowledge is organized. That is, the self-schema
is a cognitive framework that guides the way we
process information about ourselves. Self-
schemas reflect all of our past self-relevant
experiences; all of our current knowledge and
existing memories about ourselves; and our
conception of what we were like in the past,
what we are like now, and what we may be like
in the future.

complex
