Why working safely

Working safely for your own safety


and for the most important people
in your life-your family members.
Work related injuries cause time
away from work and away from
your normal social activities.
May suffer temporary or
permanent disability
What is working safely

Doing all the work activities in correct way and without taking hazardous
shortcuts
Seeking advice and instruction while doing unfamiliar work activities
Paying attention to your work at hand
Avoiding horse play at work
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment as per requirement
Evacuation

Evacuation of camp may be required in case of an emergencies situation


threatens the life and safety of the employees:
Situation that may require evacuation
Fire and smoke
Heavy rain and flood
Chemical spills of 5 gallons or more
Violence and terrorist threat
Emergency evacuation

Proceed to nearest exit


Do not stop to pick up personal
belongings
After existing accommodation /
worshops, gather at assembly point
The emergency coordinator will
verify for all operatives
Hazardous unsafe actions
Only licensed and trained operators are
authorized to operate any plant and
equipment
Never place any body part or stand under
raised load or fork of fork lift, pallets or any
other load
Never ride on fork lift, excavator, loader,
grader etc. as passenger
Personal protective equipment
Safety shoes-Steel toe boots
Helmet- hard hat
Safety glass-googles
Gloves-hand gloves
Dust mask
Hearing protection-muffs and plugs
High visual jacket
Care of the PPEs check each time when using
If damaged seek replacement/repair and
Store in clean and dry place
Limitations of PPEs
Hard hat can protect your head from falling
bolt but not from falling heavy object
Dust, dirt and spark can go underneath and
around the lenses of safety glasses
Hand gloves such as (leather gloves) can be
cut through
The sole of the safety shoes can be punctured
Eyes safety
Never rub your face or eyes with dirty hand
or while wearing gloves
If some thing dirt / dust get into your eyes
never rub it with your fingers it will only
make it worse
If some thing get into your eyes blink
several times then use eyes wash solution
or wash with clean water
Hearing conservation
Always use ears muff or ear plug in
required area
Prolonged exposure to noise
without any noise control may lead
to permanent hearing loss.
Pull up the top of the ear and insert
ear plug
Earmuff should cover entire outer
ears
Electrical safety

Only trained operative are authorized to do troubleshooting and repair work


Do not attempt any repair/maintenance on electrical system or equipment
for which you are not trained.
Never use any electrical equipment in damp or wet area
Never use damaged extension cable or equipment
Never overload an electric circuit this can lead to heating and fire
Manual handling

Always check weight of an article


before lift it
If it too heavy get help of coworkers
or use forklift
Use good techniques for lifting: use
your legs and keep and your back
should be straight while lifting a load
Never twist while carrying a load
Housekeeping
It is important to maintain a good
house keeping to avoid
trip hazard and risk of fall
water spills causing slip hazard
clean up yourself or notify the
issue to your foreman
Working at height

Never enter an area with fall hazard of 1.6 meter or greater with out proper
PPEs
Training is required on how to use fall protection equipment
Fall protection is required to be worn in man lifts
Heat stress
Drink cool water at regular interval and
remind your co-workers
Job rotation
Rest / break
Never be empty stomach
Dont use caffeinated drink like pepsi, coca
cola etc.
If feel exhausted or rise in body temperature
inform immediately your foreman and you
need an immediate first aid.
Medical facilities and Medical emergency
During working hour Inform your foreman of
about any medical condition
After working hour call/inform the camp-boss :

At camp site we have a clinic with a physician
and a male nurse
The clinic is open during 8 am to 12 am and
again 6 pm to 9 pm
Fire procedure
Shout fire..fire..fire
Switch all electric appliances and switches if it is safe to do
Close all windows and doors behind you if it is safe to do
Use fire extinguishers to put off the fire at initial stage and when fire is small
Call no 9999 to report about the fire in detail and clearly
Proceed to fire assembly point by using nearest exit
Wait at assembly point until receive further instruction
Look for your sub ordinates and co workers any one missing
Fire extinguishers

Fire cylinders contain a small amount of fire retardant so we can put off only a
small fire
To use a fire extinguisher, remember:
Pull the pin
Aim at the base of the fire
Squeeze the handle
Sweep at the base of the fire
Incident/accident reporting

All incident must be reported to your foreman or supervisor immediately


Incudes first aid cases and near misses
Disciplinary actions

Not following safety rules and safety practices can result in formal warning letter
and /or penalty
Examples of violations:
Not wearing required PPE
Not reporting any injury and incident
Committing an unsafe act
Operating an equipment or vehicle you are not authorized.
