Preface
Antenna
In the transmit direction: The service signal is transmitted to the main ODU and the standby ODU
after traversing the cross-connect board. Then, the service signal is transmitted to the antenna
through the hybrid coupler. In normal cases, the standby ODU is muted. After the switching, the main
ODU is muted and the standby ODU starts to work.
In the receive direction: The service signal received at the antenna is transmitted to the cross-
connect board through the main ODU and the standby ODU. The cross-connect board selects the

Compared with the 1+1 SD protection, the 1+1 FD protection uses two frequencies.

In the case of the 1+1 HSB/SD/FD protection for the IDU 605 2F, the MUX unit of the main IF board multiplexes the
accessed E1 and Ethernet services into Hybrid microwave frames and then transmits the Hybrid microwave frames
to the processing units of the main IF board and the standby IF board. The realization principle is the same as the
relation principle of the 1+1 HSB/SD/FD protection for the traditional microwave of the IDU 605 V100R001. Hence,
details about the realization principle are not provided in this course.
1+1 HSB/SD/FD protection for the IFH2 of the IDU 620
In the case of the TDM service, the cross-connect board performs the dual transmission and selective
receiving of services because the backplane is connected to the cross-connect board.
In the case of the Ethernet services transmitted over the Hybrid microwave, the 1+1 HSB/FD/SD protection
requires the cooperation of the IFH2 board and the EMS6 board because the service that traverses the IFH2
board and the EMS6 board is not dually transmitted and selectively received at the cross-connect board.
The 1+1 HSB/SD/FD protection described in the following slides refers to the 1+1 HSB/SD/FD protection for the
IFH2 board of the IDU 620.
When the GE interface of the standby IF board is disabled, the Ethernet service is transmitted through the
GE interface of the main IF board.
After the 1+1 HSB switching occurs between the main IF board and the standby IF board, the GE
interface of the former working (main) IF board is disabled and the GE interface of the protection (standby)
IF board is enabled. The GE interface of the protection (standby) IF board starts to access the Ethernet
service transmitted from the EMS6 board. Thus, the switching between the main IF board and the standby
IF board is realized.
The IDU 620 supports one to two 1+1 HSB protection groups. One 1+1 HSB protection group uses one
channel and consists of the following items:
Two IFH2 boards: The 1+1 HSB does not require that the IF boards must be installed in paired slots. It is
recommended, however, that you install a pair of the main IF board and the standby IF board in slots 5
and 7 (the IF board in slot 5 functions as the main board), or in slots 6 and 8 (the IF board in slot 6
functions as the main board).
One EMS6 board: It is recommended that you install the EMS6 board in slot 4.
Two ODUs that are of the same type
One hybrid coupler: The hybrid coupler can be balanced or unbalanced. Generally, the unbalanced
hybrid coupler is used.

two ODUs, however, must be consistent.
