INTRODUCTION ABOUT RDSO

Railway were introduced in 1853, IRCA setup

in 1903, RTRC setup in 1952 for testing and
conducting applied research for development
of railway.
RDSO Was formed in 1957 under ministry of
railway at Lucknow.

RDSO function as the technical advisor to the Railway Board Zonal Railways and
production unit and perform following operation.

Development of new and improved Design.

Development , adoption, absorption of new technology for use on Indian
Railways.
Development of Standards of material for Indian Railway.
and many more.

Dust chamber
DRY HEAT TEST

Purpose To work equipment satisfactory at

environment temperature and to test the
equipment as specified in specification IS: 9000
(Part 3)

Test temperature range - +70 degree celsius.

Test Duration 16 hours.

Condition Fully functional during test.

Result After test equipment should work

satisfactory.
DRIVING RAIN TEST
PURPOSE To work the equipment
satisfactory at field condition and test the
equipment as specified in IS:9000.

TEST DURATION 1 hours (Water spray).

CONDITION Non functional during test,

after this test electrical parameter shall be
monitored in addition to physical checks.

RESULT After test equipment should work

functionally satisfactory in addition to physical
checks.
DUST TEST

PURPOSE To work the equipment satisfactory

at field condition and test the equipment as
specified in IS:9000.

TEST DURATION 1 hours.

TEST TEMERATURE RANGE - +40 degree

Celsius.

CONDITION Non functional during test.

RESULT After test equipment should work

functionally satisfactory in addition to physical
checks.

DUST COMPOSITION TiO, Mg0, silicon

dioxide, aluminium dioxide.
PROGRAMMABLE ENVIRONMENT CHAMBER

PURPOSE To work the equipment satisfactory at

field condition and test the equipment as specified in
IS:9000.

TEST DURATION 7 hours at each temperature.

MINIMUM TEMPERATURE -10 degree Celsius.
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE- +70 degree
Celsius.

CONDITION Fully functional during test.

RESULT After test equipment should work

functionally satisfactory in addition to physical
checks.
BUMP TEST

PCB/Modules/units in packed condition shall be

subjected to bump test as under:

Number of Bumps 1000

Peak acceleration 400 meter per square.
Pulse duration 6 ms
Weight 113.7

SHOCK TEST The equipment in operation

shall be subjected for 2 minutes to 50 Hz
vibration of such nature that the maximum
acceleration is equal to 30 meter per square. At
the end of the test, the assembly shall be
subjected to performance test.
SALT MIST TEST

PURPOSE The purpose of this test is to work the equipment satisfactory

environment temperature at field condition and test the equipment as specified in
IS:9000.

TEST TEMPERATURE 35 degree Celsius.

HUMIDITY 93%
TEST DURATION 2 Hours + 7 Days
2 Hours + 22 Days

CONDITION Fully functional during test, After

test equipment should work functionally satisfactory in addition to physical
checks.

RESULT After test equipment should work satisfactory.

AXLE COUNTER

Detect passing of train between two

points on track.
Installed at each end of the section.
As each train axle passes the counting
head at the start of the section, a counter
increments.
A detection point comprises two
independent sensors, therefore the
device can detect the direction and speed
of a train.
As the train passes a similar counting head at the end of the section, the counter
compares count at the end of the section with that recorded at the beginning. If
the two counts are the same, the section is presumed to be clear for a second
train.
ORGANIC LED

OLED is relatively new but very promising technology for display devices.

Different from other LED because they are made up of organic compounds
which emit light in response to electric current.
Why OLEDs?

Lighting efficiency
Incandescent bulbs are inefficient
Fluorescent bulbs give off ugly light
LEDs (ordinary light emitting diodes) are not versatile
OLEDs may be better on all counts

Displays: Significant advantages over liquid crystals

Faster.
Brighter.
Lower power.
ADVANTAGES
Faster response time than LED

Consume significantly less energy.

Can be transparent when off.

Flexible and conformal display.

Better contrast ratio.

Safer for the environment.

Low cost material and fabrication method.

Wider viewing angles upto 170 degree.

DISADVANTAGE

Manufacturing Currently manufacturing is more

expansive than LCDs.

WATER Water can easily damage OLED.

OLED screens are even worse than led if exposed in

direct sunlight.

Overall luminance degradation.

Limited market avalability.

APPLICATION IN RAILWAYS
Possible future growth in development of convenient and friendly
Platform Passenger information systems.

Possible Entertainment and information Purposes inside the coaches.

Signal Traffic Light.
