Policies and Procedures TO: CHIEF PROFESSIONAL OFFICER
The following employee handbook template is designed to assist the local member agencies of the
Boys & Girls Clubs of America in developing their own employee handbooks. EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK
Employment and labor laws vary widely from state to state and this template creates only a very
generic employee handbook. It is imperative that you review the contents of your Clubs completed
handbook annually with appropriate legal counsel to ensure compliance with all state and federal 123 Pages
laws.
Please pay special attention to the footnotes and to the blanks in the template. The blanks
indicate that you are required to provide information particular to your Club.
Once completed, you should provide each employee with a copy of the Clubs handbook and you
should also require each employee to sign an acknowledgement form indicating that they have read
and received a copy of the handbook (see sample at the end of the template).
PLEASE NOTE: This template is not intended to be all-inclusive as to the universe of policies and
provisions that may be contained in an employee handbook. In addition to making appropriate
modifications to the provisions contained in this template, there may be other policies and provisions
that you would like to include in order to customize the handbook for your specific Club and/or that
may be required by particular state or local laws in your region. These may include:
A Mission Statement
An Ethics Policy
A brief history of your Club
An Expense Reimbursement Policy
Safety Policies
A Policy or Procedure for reporting suspected child abuse and/or neglect
A Policy for scheduling vacations or other planned leave
A Policy for reporting hours spent doing volunteer work for the Club
A Policy or Procedure for Handling Inclement Weather and/or Emergency Situations
A Policy for state-mandated leave, e.g., sick leave, medical leave or military leave
And others
