Adverbs
What is an adjective?

An adjective modifies nouns or pronouns.

Ex.: The pink tablet is very


expensive.

It tells us more about the noun.

Ex.: This tablet is powerful enough for


your computing needs.
Identify the adjectives.
This car is fast.
Damon is happy with his laptop.
This book is boring.
The cake is delicious.
The English class is interesting.
How much water do you drink?
Randy got good marks in his tests.
I had a bad day.
What are adverbs?
Many adverbs end in -ly. These answer the
question How?. But others might answer the
questions When? and Where?.

Ex.: Molly draws beautifully.


I get up very early.
How far is the railway station?

Adverbs tell us more about the verb.


Ex.: You must cross the road safely.
Identify the adverbs.

The students do their test carefully.


The horse moves quickly across the fields.
David rides too fast.
Adele sings very well.
This stone is hard.
Recognising Adjectives & Adverbs
Many words have both an adjective and adverb form.
