THE MAIN CULPRIT : ENERGY

The stores of energy in this planet are


limited, they will exhaust some day.
Especially if we take petroleum sources
they are decreasing at a fast pace and
other renewable sources like hydropower,
solar energy have also their limitations.
Burning of fossil fuels creates noxious
gases which are the main cause of
pollution and various diseases.
So to overcome this scenario we came up
to power an engine by acetylene which is
an easily obtainable non-petroleum
source of energy.
OBJECTIVES
Providing a fuel comprising acetylene as primary
fuel for an internal combustion engine (ICE).
The principle objective of doing this project is to
understand the air quality of megacities of India
and provide the world with a much cleaner and
inexpensive fuel for transportation i.e acetylene .To
make this a reality the project will be documented
as closely and as accurately as possible.

It is obtained from the hydrolysis of calcium
carbide
Acetylene(C2H2) is a hydrocarbon and the
simplest alkyne

Working Of ICE using Acetylene
Step1: The first step involves the production of acetylene gas through
carbide reacting with water in the reaction tank . The reaction tank has
two chambers:
In first chamber water is kept
In second chamber the calcium carbide is kept
The water from the first chamber is released in such a way to proceed
reaction spontaneously, the water is passed through control valve.
In the second chamber the calcium carbide is kept in desirable amount
to react with water .Through second chamber a valve is connected to the
storage tank where gas produced is stored.
Step 2: In second step the acetylene stored in storage tank is passed
though the pipes. Here the gas is stored to avoid moisture the gas stored in
tank is provided pressure through gauge so the gas is oh high
concentration.
The gas is then passed in the pipes in a very sophisticated manner to the
carburetor with the filter and then to engine

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CONCEPT

It is well known that acetylene is a high flammable and explosive


compound, it is NOT VERY EASY to run an internal combustion
engine on acetylene without detonation control system.
Spark ignition engine with carburetor has to modified with
electronic injection control system (ECU) and two standard
commercial injectors:
1) one for the acetylene
2) one for the alcohol
The ECU is able to manage two fuels: acetylene and alcohol. Thus,
Running an ICE on acetylene and alcohol it is possible to achieve
acceptable engine performance and very low pollutant emissions.
CONCLUSION
on the basis of our hypothesis we can say that it is
possible to run a conventional IC engine on
acetylene controlling detonation phenomena using
alcohol.
Therefore, it is possible to obtain lower pollutant
emissions rather than original configuration.
The new engine configuration based on acetylene-
alcohol represents a good alternative to petrol and
diesel engines in terms of pollutant emissions, as
well as engine performance.
