HOW TO SET UP A TRIPOD

STEP 1
Firstly check the TRIPOD and CAMERA is working properly and you have all of
the equipment needed.
Then take the TRIPOD out of the BAG. The BASE PLATE is originally meant to be
on the TRIPOD, so always check it is there.
Checking all the equipment before hand will prevent you from getting to a
location and setting up the equipment to find out its broken.
STEP 2
Open the legs of the TRIPOD and push the panels down towards the floor
and screw if it needs more stability, to make the legs stand.

Adjust the height of the TRIPOD using the clips and getting another person
to weigh down the floor panels so the whole TRIPOD doesnt lift up.
To make this step easier you can have someone hold the tripod upright
whilst you tighten the screws.
STEP 3
To PAN, use HANDLE and tighten TEETH of the handle to ensure the pan is
smooth. If not tightened, the HANDLE of the TRIPOD could be damaged.
Then place CAMERA on the BASE PLATE which is attached to the TRIPOD. To take
off, simply turn the BOLT on the side and press the RED BUTTON and remove.
The BRASS PIN should fit with the smaller hole and the SCREW should fit with
the bigger one. Once fitted, screw the BASE PLATE to the bottom of the CAMERA.
STEP 4
Then press the RED BUTTON on the side of the head of the TRIPOD and
insert the BASE PLATE with CAMERA on, and tighten BOLT on side.
The last thing to do is check the SPIRIT LEVEL is level so that the CAMERA
isnt wonky. If your SPIRIT LEVEL is out of the circle, this means that
the CAMERA isnt straight.
STEP 5
Finally, to put everything away, you take the BASE PLATE off the TRIPOD
using the RED BUTTON and BOLT, then unscrew the METAL BOLT of the BASE
PLATE for the CAMERA to come off. Attach back onto the TRIPOD as before
and turn CAMERA off.
Close legs of TRIPOD and make sure the legs have been shortened so it fits
perfectly in the BAG.
EXPERT SHOT
For a EXPERT shot, place the subject
slightly to the left/right depending on
where you want the space to be.
NEVER PLACE THE SUBJECT IN THE
MIDDLE!
Have the subject looking at a
diagonal, NOT STRAIGHT AT THE
CAMERA. This makes the subject
appear as if theyre talking to
someone. The overall effect on the
viewer is that it can make them feel
more involved.
The shot should be a
medium/medium close up shot.
VOXPOP SHOT
For a VOXPOP shot, you need to place
the camera on the tripod and only raise
the tripods legs to adjust height
depending on the subject, NOT TILTING
THE CAMERA! Always maintain eyelevel.
DONT CHANGE SETTING OF CAMERA.
This can give disorientation towards the
viewer.
WHAT TO NOT DO:
No TRIPOD should Dont film against
be carried without the light as it can
a bag and also cause tints of blue
carried on its side. and yellow.

The BASE PLATE The EXPERT

should always be should always be
with the TRIPOD, sat on a chair and
not on its own. looking into the
space.
