substance used in or produced by the
processes of chemistry
• has a defined atomic or molecular structure
that results from, or takes part in, reactions
involving changes in its structure,
composition, and properties.
• Hazardous or non-hazardous
How Hazardous chemicals causes injury?
• by destruction of body tissue, as in
an acid burning the skin;

at the state and national levels that
mandate that employers share
scientific information with workers
and local communities about the
toxicity and other characteristics of
chemicals and materials used in
business processes.
Requirements for clinical laboratories
• plan and implement a written
hazard communication program
• Obtain material safety data sheets
(MSDSs) for every hazardous
substances
• Educate all employees
• Maintain hazard warning labels
MSDSs
• is a major source of safety
information for employees who may
use hazardous chemicals.
• Must be printed in English and
provide the specific compound
identity
