INDIO - was a derogatory term used by the

Spaniards to denote the natives living in the


Philippines.
Before the term FILIPINOS was given to
those Spaniards born inthe Philippines, or the
INSULARES, as opposed to those born inSpain
called PENINSULARES.

Jos Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda,widely known
as Jos Rizal (Spanish pronunciation: [xose risal]; June 19, 1861
December 30, 1896), was a Filipino nationalist and polymath during
the tail end of the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines.
An ophthalmologist by profession, Rizal became a writer and a key
member of the Filipino Propaganda Movement which
advocated political reforms for the colony under Spain.
He was executed by the Spanish colonial government for the crime
of rebellion after the Philippine Revolution, inspired in part by his
writings, broke out. Though he was not actively involved in its
planning or conduct, he ultimately approved of its goals which
eventually led to Philippine independence.
He is widely considered one of the greatest heroes of the Philippines
and has been recommended to be so honored by an officially
empaneled National Heroes Committee. However, no law, executive
order or proclamation has been enacted or issued officially
proclaiming any Filipino historical figure as a national hero. He was
the author of the novels Noli Me Tngere and El filibusterismo, and a
number of poems and essays.
Intelligence is the solution to the ills of the country.
Their consciousness should be freed from fanaticism,
docility, inferiority, and hopelessness.
He started La Liga Filipina with the job of
enlightening the minds of the people.
Believed in Agnostic Deism the view that God
created the universe with its law, never to interfere
with it again.
Human problems are irrational human creations and
can be solved through rational solutions. If reason
commits mistakes, only reason can correct them.
What is the use of independence if the slaves of
today will be the tyrants of tomorrow?
Andrs Bonifacio (November 30, 1863 May 10, 1897) was
a Filipino revolutionary leader and the president of the Tagalog
Republic. He is often called "The Father of the Philippine Revolution".
He was one of the founders and later Supremo (Supreme Leader) of
the Kataas-taasan, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng
Bayan or more commonly known as "Katipunan", a movement which
sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial
rule and started the Philippine Revolution. He is considered a de
facto national hero of the Philippines.

His philosophy of revolution was published in the revolutionary
newspaper , Kalayaan.
Transformed the blood compact (sandugo) as a kinship contract.
According to him, a revolution of war is justified when there is breach
of contract.
Isabelo de los Reyes, Sr. y Florentino, also known as Don Belong (July 7, 1864
October 10, 1938), was a prominent Filipinopolitician, writer and labor activist in
the 19th and 20th centuries. He was the original founder of the Aglipayan Church,
an independent Philippine national church. For his writings and activism with labor
unions, he was called the "Father of Filipino Socialism".
As a young man, de los Reyes followed his mother's footsteps by initially turning to
writing as a career; he won a prize at the age of 23 for his first written book. He
later became a journalist, editor, and publisher in Manila, and was imprisoned in
1897 for revolutionary activities. He was deported to the Kingdom of Spain, where
he was jailed for his activities until 1898. While living and working in Madrid, he
was influenced by the writings of European socialists and Marxists.
Returning to the Philippines in 1901, de los Reyes founded the first labor union in
the country. He also was active in seeking independence from the United States.
After serving in the Philippine Senate in the 1920s, he settled into private life and
religious writing. He had a total of 27 children with three successive wives; he
survived all his wives and 12 of his children.
