The Benefits of Honey for Wound
Some studies suggest that honey is useful as an antiseptic and
antibacterial (to overcome the infection in the wound area and
facilitate the circulation process that affects the wound healing
process).
Honey also stimulates the growth of new tissues so as to accelerate
healing. Honey has an osmotic effect with high levels of sugar and
very little water content causes honey to have a high osmotic
effect. With these effects allows the microorganisms that exist in
the body difficult to grow and develop.

Honey has a high acid content with a pH of between 3.2-4.5 (very
acidic). Given the high acid levels this microorganisms that do not
stand acid will die.
Honey creates analgesic effects (pain relievers), reduces irritation,
and can eliminate the stinging smell of the wound.
Honey also serves as an antioxidant due to the presence of vitamin
C which is mostly contained in honey. Indirectly honey eliminates
the free radical substances that exist in our bodies.

How to care DFU with Honey

Open the wound dressing slowly

Clean the wound

Debridement

Topical Therapy with honey

Wound dressing
Implementation

1. Open the wound dressing slowly, if the dressing is dry, wet it with NaCl
0.9%
2. Clean the wound with NaCl 0.9% in one direction or circular
3. For dirty wounds and there exudate/pus, cleaned with H2O2 3%
irrigation (not done on wound that has been flushed and granulation)
4. Do debridement on the necrotic tissue of the wound
5. The wound is cleaned again with H2O2 3% and rinsed with NaCl 0.9
6. The wound is smeared with honey evenly and cover the entire surface
of the wound
Honey is safe to apply directly to open wounds because the honey is
always soluble in water and easy to clean
7. The wound is dressing with a sterile gauze that has been smeared with
honey first
8. Wrap wound with dry gauze
