Impedance Matching: Input Impedance of an electrical load or the output impedance of its corresponding signal source to maximize the power transfer or minimize signal reflection from the load. Power Transfer: Whenever a source of power with a fixed output impedance such as an electrical signal source, a radio transmitter operates into a load, the maximum possible power is delivered to the load when the impedance of the load (load impedance or input impedance) is equal to the complex conjugate of the impedance of the source (that is, its internal impedance or output impedance) Impedance matching Techniques
1:Practical Scenario(Weathering Tape):
Weathering tapes are used in antenna ports and RRU ports for impedance matching in to order to get rid of high VSWR. If weathering tape is not used then dust particles and water enter into the ports which increase the values of vswr from the defined threshold(Defined by Network operators) causing mismatch due to which antenna cannot radiate resulting in failure of Services. Coaxial Cable(straight or Circular) The coaxial cable(RF) connected to the antenna must be straight or circular in order to get impedance matching between Transmission line, Antenna and RRU. If the coaxial cables are bend i-e makes 90 degree with antenna ports then the impedance of the transmission line will mismatch with the antenna causing reflection from the load and RRU impedance due to which they cannot radiate.
