In 1999, during preparation for the 2000 show, the Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs
Council (MAC) led the effort to assist Barksdale Air Force Base in making the annual
Barksdale Air Show a world- class military open house event. The 2000 show was the
first year there had been an organized civilian push to engage with the Base on this
project. We were successful in increasing public awareness within the community, for
Barksdale, and plan to maintain a first-class event in order to bring in as many attendees
to our community and the base as possible. Last year, the posted attendance for both
days was 150,000 and an Economic Impact Study done by an independent contractor
listed a total impact of roughly $5 million dollars. While the MAC participates in many
other worthwhile projects each year on behalf of the men and women of Barksdale, this
is by far our largest and most visible project to the general public with the largest
economic impact, and influence on our military-civilian partnership.
