Supporting details

provide the information that supports the topic sentence.


The details you use to support your topic sentences depends on what type
of essay you want to write
Example : Narrative or descriptive essay, persuasive essay, compare or
contrast essay,etc

1. Personal Observation
Justification based on their own experience, observation and identification of the
researcher

Example
Experience:
Watching a movie at home is more relaxing than going to a movie theatre.

Observation:
Before becoming parents, adults must make sure that they are ready not only for the
joy but also for the hard times.

Identification:
Breathing is the process of moving air into and out of the lungs to facilitate gas
exchanges
2. Explanation
Specific descriptions that give a clear picture about something and focus on
explaining ideas for readers, who are unfamiliar with the topic.

Example:
1. The reason the cat has fleas is that the weather has been damp.
2. A kite uses wind to make it fly because it is heavier than air.
3. Example
To support topic sentences by giving an evidence
A fact or a situation that explains or supports an argument.

Example:
Fact
One simple example of this, The Fund for American Studies reports that a
majority of people would not give up the Internet forever for one million
dollars.
Situation
For example, when an individual is anxious about an examination or job
interview, his or her nervousness may result in a physical reaction such as
headache.
4. Expert Opinion
The word or speech that comes from a person who is very skilful and has
advanced training and knowledge in a particular area and field

Example:

1. The person who knows the most about getting hired usually gets the desired
position. "Chemistry is the paramount factor in hiring, states Wilhelmus
B.Bryan Ill, executive vice-president of William H.Clark Associates, a
New York recruiting firms.
2. Do what you love. Steve Jobs once told a group of employees,People with
passion can change the world for the better. Jobs has followed his heart
his entire life and that passion, he says, has made all the difference. Its very
difficult to come up with new, creative, and novel ideas unless you are
passionate about moving society forward.
5. Research Finding
Research performing a methodical study in order to prove a hypothesis or
answer a specific question.

Finding information that you discover, or opinions that you have form after
done a research.

Example:
1. Based on the research, dark chocolate is one of the best sources of
antioxidants .
2. Researchers have found that salicylic acid associated to wide variety of
diseases .
3. It is proven that mercury is very harmful human being.
4. From the research conducted by Dr. Monash,it shows that physical exercise
is good for mental health.
6. Statistic
A fact in the form of a number that shows information about something.
Observation by goverment agencies or other public bodies such as World
Health Organization, an international organization.

Example:
1. Report shows that the level of IPU in Selangor is 351.
2. The current population in Malaysia is estimated to be 482, 664, 989 people .
3. The number of intake for this semester is 30% higher than last semester.
