1. Password policy
Combine alphabets, numbers and special
characters. Easy to remember but hard to
guess
Use virtual keypad wherever possible
Different password for different accounts
Change passwords periodically
Do not use public cyber cafe/ wifi for using
accounts
2. Privacy safeguards
Check details of the privacy settings. Take help
of teachers and/ or parents
Think Before You Post! NOT to reveal personal
information, addresses, phone numbers,
photos or other details as online predators
find easy prey in public profiles
Do not click on hyperlinks in emails unless
those are verified
Install a good anti virus programme
3. Social networking
Keep your social profile strictly private
Play it safe and only accept friend requests from
friends in the real world. If you don't know them, don't
friend them. What will Grandma Say (WWGS) Rule
Should always take the parent along with you when
going to meet someone you have met only online
Avoid spreading and/ or commenting on rumours,
especially on communal matters
Avoid posting that you are going on vacation, or
posting pictures while on vacation
Should tell parents if you find some one troubling you
online
4. DOs and DONTs of Mobile phone
Do not share personal information like
PAN card or
AADHAAR or information regarding
ATM/ DEBIT CARDS including CVVs
One Time Passwords (OTPs)
to any stranger on call. Banks and other financial
institutions do not call their customers for these
information.
In case of any problem, they should personally
visit the branch of concerned bank.
5. In case, youre in trouble
Do not panic.
Block your cards if you suspect any financial
transaction
Contact Local police station and/ or Cyber Crime
police station
Provide:
Name
Address
Email account details
Phone number
Other account details, if needed
6. For Parents and Teachers
Become computer literate and learn how to block
objectionable material.
Keep the computer in a common area, not in individual
bedrooms, where you can watch and monitor its use.
Spend time online together to teach your kids
appropriate online behaviour. If they are friends with
their children on social media, they should keep a
check on who their childs friends are
Take your child seriously if he or she reports an
uncomfortable online exchange.
Awareness should be created in the school on online
behaviour
