Mileni Arriaga
Students will gain Knowledge of map
orientation (N, S, E, W, NE, SE,
NW,SW). They will be able to give
directions from one place to another
using cardinal directions.

Day 1 Objective
Why do we use a
compass?
that displays the directions. Most show points for the
cardinal directions; North, south, east, and west. Some,
like the one below, also have points for northeast,
northwest, southeast, and south west.
Answer the questions below to practice using the
compass rose. THen color it In!!

1.If you walked North, then made left turn, what would be
your new direction?
2.If you were walking in the northwest direction , then turned
students will BE introduced to the major
cities, major Bodies of water, Mountain
ranges, worlds continents. They will learn
that images of these features of the earth are
documented into maps which can be stored
in atlases

Day 3 OBJECTIVE
Latitude, and Longitude:
How will i remember these?
Latitude---lays down

Longitude---long line standing

parallels:
How can I think of meridians:
world continents, Grid system
grid system:
Collective term
for the parallels
and meridians
that from an
imaginary grid
over the Earths
surface, making
degrees of latitude:
- starts at equator
- measure distance with North and South
- lines are parallel to the equator
- each line is 70 miles apart
- can only go up to 90
degrees of longitude:
-imaginary lines called Meridians
-measures distance east and west these are
called
-Prime meridian 0
-lines are not parallel because they meet in
the poles
Special lines of latitude and
longitude, hemispheres:
equator, Prime meridian, globe

6. ___ Prime Meridian, a geographical coordinate
defined as
0 longitude to which all other longitudes are defined as
east or west from this position on the Earth's surface.
