Introduction ASET

Concrete is the most modifiable construction material.

Concrete has tendency of showing weak behaviour in tension zone while proves to
be strong in compression zone.
Concrete is brittle in nature, and ductile to some extent.
Due to this reinforcement is required to reduce development of cracks in concrete.
In spite of reinforcement cracks freely propagates until an adjacent rebar is
encountered on its way.
Therefore a need of closely reinforced concrete arises to reduce its free path.
Fibre reinforced concrete is used to overcome this problem.
FRC contains short discrete fibres that are distributed throughout the concrete.

2
Effects Of Fiber In Concrete ASET

Fibres reduce bleeding of concrete by lowering its permeability.

Fibres reduce cracking in concrete by reducing plastic shrinkage and drying
shrinkage.
The amount of fibres added in concrete is expressed in terms of total volume (Vf) of
concrete and fibres.
Vf usually ranges from .1% to 3%.
Aspect ratio is calculated by dividing its length(l) to its diameter(d).
By increasing aspect ratio flexural strength and toughness of concrete also
increases.
But, too long fibres tends to fuse together in the mix and thus creates workability
problems.

Gaps Of Study ASET

In the past study, the researchers mainly focused on tensile, flexural and
compressive strength.

All the strength tests done by the previous researchers were at macroscopic level.

But they didnt focused on deleterious processes such as Sulphate Attack, Alkali
Silica reactions, etc.

So to remove the voids of the previous studies we are going to research at

microscopic level using SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy).

SEM is used to obtain high-magnification images of concrete fracture surfaces or to

analyze material not identifiable by optical microscopy.

6
Objectives Of Study ASET

Comparison between :
1. Aluminium Fibre Concrete
2. Steel Fibre Concrete.
3. Normal Concrete.

To evaluate the change in properties of FRC by changing the volume of fibres in

concrete.

Detailed study of FRC blocks using SEM. It provides important information about:
1. Adhesion to aggregates.
2. Homogeneity of cement paste.

7
Experimental Program ASET

Tests on aggregates will be conduct like

1. Water absorption test
2. Flakiness and elonginess test
3. Specific gravity test
4. Impact Value test
5. Abrasion test

Future Experiments ASET

Firstly, we will check strength of conventional M25 and M30 grade concrete.

We will check and compare the strength of steel fibre concrete and aluminium fibre
concrete.

Then we will check the strength of same M25 grade concrete with the inclusion of
fibres and note the changes in strength of concrete in different orientation of fibres
in concrete.

We will wrap fibre mat roll on the surfaces of the cube.

Then we will perform SEM test under fractured condition of fibre reinforced cube.
