.it was named after the commander in charge of the southwestern front Imperial
Russian army General Aleksei Brusilov

.was the worst crisis for Austria-Hungary

I have found some conflict with the information on how the battle affected the
overall war one saying that it did not cause the Germans to transfer troops away
from Verdun and or Somme while another said it did
Battle of Passchendaele
(July 31,1917-November 10,1917)

. it is also known as the third battle of Ypres

.for the soldiers it was known as the battle of mud

. Flanders had the most amount of rain that they had seen in over thirty years

.the Germans used mustard gas to stop the allied breakthrough at Passchendaele
ridge

.Haig was criticized heavily for not altering his battle plans when Germany moved
troops from the eastern front to the west

.Passchendaele was a very costly battle for the sake of a few kilometers the british
lost 310,000 and the Germans lost 260,000
Gallipoli Campaign

.the battle introduced the first use of tanks in warfare

.Adolf Hitler was wounded in the leg during this battle

.A silent movie about the battle became the first blockbuster film

.J.R.R Tolkien survived the battle due to a case of trenchfoot he was removed from the front line

Its over all contribution to the war effort was that it highlighted the importance of airpower and showcased the first
use of a tank at the end of the battle British and French forces had penetrated 10km into German occupied
territory taking more ground than any battle previous
