Trividha Aushadha means three types
of Aushadhas, namely

DAIVAVYAPASHRAYA

YUKTIVYAPASHRAYA

SATVAVAJAYA
DEFINITION OF AUSHADHA

* Aushadham Bheshajam ( Charaka Chi 1)


It is one of the synonym of Bheshaja
* According to Gangadhara:
Aushadhibhirnishapannam Vyadhihitam,
Tadupalakshanatwath sarve
chikitsitamoushadham
rudham
According to Chakrapani:
Bheshajangaroopataya tu sthavara jangama
roopadravyasya bheshajasya
bheshajatvamevavantarasya
vyavaharakrutam
i.e Medicine mainly having plant origin which eradicates the disease and
which brings back the homeostasis is known as Aushadha.

According to Kashypa Samhita:


Oshonama Rasaha Saasyam dheeyate yath
tadh aushadham
i.e. The thing which contains RASA (Pharmacological property/
Active principle) is known as aushadha

- A substance possessing or reputed to posses, curative or remedial
properties.

-The science of the preservation of health and of treating disease for the
purpose of cure, specifically as distinguished from surgery or obsterics.

- Something used for other than healing purpose as the philosophers

- To do something unpleasant but required.

i.e. : The therapy in which Mantra, Aushadhis are used and exclusively
dependent on Daiva is known Daivavyapashraya

YUKTIVYAPASHRAYA

Yuktim Yogam Visheshenapashritya edoushadham

drayanam cha yojana iti

i.e.: Scientific therapy consists of the prescription of


line of dietetic regimen and medication is known
as Yuktivyapashraya
SATWAVAJAYA

Satwam Manaha, Asyarthebhyo Athitebhyo


Nigrahaha satwavajaya ucchyate
( Gangadhar)
i.e.: Restraining the mind from the desire from
unwholesome objects is known as satwavajaya
OR in other words mind controlling therapy.
CONCLUSION

Classification of aushadha according to Charaka is


more usefull in clinical practice during treating the
diseases and looks to be more appropriate.

Daivavyapashraya aushadha is mainly used in treating


the diseases caused by the poorva janma kruta karmas, as
Daiva is the other name for poorva janma kruta karmas and
useful in treating Adibala & Janmabala pravrutta vyadhis.

Yuktivyapashraya aushadha is mainly used in treating


the Doshajanya Rogas, and it includes external and internal
medication as well as surgical management. It is used in
treating Doshabala and Kalabala pravrutta vyadhis.
Satwavajaya aushadha is mainly used in Manasa
Rogas along with / without the Daiva Vyapashraya
aushodha.

In all the above points the word mainly is used because, all
the three types of aushadhas are useful in all types of
diseases. But according to their specialty they are giving
special effect on concerned group of diseases.
