TABLE OF SPECIFICATION

TABLE OF SPECIFICATION
should be prepared before
constructing a summative test
two-way table of specification has
two specific items to measure
subject content and
objectives/skills.
How to Compute for the Table of
Specification
First Column Content/Competencies

identify the contents/competencies in

which can be assessed with traditional
assessment (paper and pencil test).
NOTE: Only competencies which are
identified under traditional assessment
are included.
Second Column No. of Recitation Days

Decide the number of days a

lesson/unit/chapter is taught.
Write the total number of days.
To get the number of days per
content/competency refer to the
teachers manual.
Third Column - Weight
To get the weight divide the number
of days per content/
competency with the total number of
days then multiply by 100 (convert to
percentage)
After the weight per content/
competency are all taken, add all entries
and the total should always be 100 %
Fourth Column Number of Test Items

Decide the total number of test items

to give
Then, multiply the total number of test
items by the weight per content/
competency to get the number of test
items per content/competency
After getting all the number of test
items per content/competency, add all
and the total of which is the number of
test items you decide to give
For the Second Way

Make four (4) columns under

Educational Objectives in the Cognitive
Domain as Knowledge or Comprehension
15%; Process or Application 25%
Understand or the Analysis- 30% and
Performance or the Synthesis 30%
Then, multiply the total no. of test
items by 15%, 25% , 30% and 30%
Write the product opposite total in their
respective columns
To get the test items per content/
competency multiply the test items per
content/competency by (K)15%, (P)25% ,
(U)30% and (P)30% . The product should
be written opposite the content/
competency under their respective
columns.
NOTE: In case of decimal places, round
off the numbers but take note of the
remaining decimal number for
adjustment and balancing when the
need arises.

Item Placement

Item Placement is written at

the last row of your TOS.
Your Item Placement depends
on the Arrangement of
questions of your Test.
Computations:
To get the Weight
W = No. of Days ( per lesson)
Total Number of Days
x 100 _10_ = 0.22 x 100 = 22%
45

To get the number of test item per

lesson
= Total Number of test item x Weight
( per lesson)
50 x .22 = 11
To get the total number of test
item in the educational objectives
Total Number of test items x %
allotted to each objective =

Knowledge = 50 x 15% (.15) = 8 items

Process = 50 x 25% (.25) = 12 items
Understanding = 50 x 30% (.30) = 15 items
Performance = 50 x 30% (.30) = 15 items
To get the number under each
objective in every lesson
Total number of test items under each
lesson x % allotted to each educational
objective =
Chapter 1 Lesson 1 = 11 x 15% (.15)
= 1.65 or 1 (knowledge)
11 x 25% (.25) = 2.75 or 2 ( Process)
11 x 30% (.30) = 3.3 or 4 (Understanding)
11 x 30% (.30) = 3.3 or 4 (Performance)

Note: Start the computation from the

Performance down to Knowledge

Total = 11
