ENGINE: An engine is a device which transform one form of
energy into another form.
There are four stroke in any working engine.
 Suction or intake stroke ( piston moves TDC to BDC)

 Compression stroke ( piston moves BDC to TDC )

 Expansion or power stroke (piston moves TDC to BDC)

 Exhaust stroke. ( piston moves BDC to TDC ).

 Cooling system is the system that cools the engine and
keeps it at the proper operating temperature during
running condition.
Parts of the cooling system:
 Coolant : A coolant is a mixture of water and antifreeze that
circulates with the help of water pump through the engine to
draw off heat. coolants additive get depilated at 100,000 km
then you have to change the coolant before 100,000 km.
 Radiator : A radiator is a type of heat exchanger, it is
designed to transfer the heat from the hot coolant that flows
through the fins through by its fan. A radiator is made by
brazing thin aluminum fins.
 Pressure cap : a pressure cap is a special cap for a radiator
that enables the water to run hotter without boiling. In this
way , the engine can operate at a higher and a more efficient
temperature without danger of overheating.
 Water pump : water pump circulate the coolant throughout
the engine that keeps the engine to be at operating
temperature range.
 Thermostat : A thermostat is valve between engine and
radiator. Its function to block the flow of coolant to the
radiator when the engine is warmed up.

 The fuel system is the system which pump the fuel into the internal
combustion mixture which mixes with air.
There are two type of method of injection of fuel
 Carburetor : The carburetor was first discovered by Samuel
morey in 1826. A carburetor is work on the Bernoulli's principle
;the faster air moves ,lower its static pressure and higher its
dynamic pressure.

Carburetor
 Fuel injection system: Quick and complete combustion is
ensured by the well designed injector. By atomizing the fuel
particles into fuel droplet ,it increases the surface area which
result in better mixing and subsequent combustion.

 A brake is a device which provide a frictional resistance in
order to retard or stop the vehicle by observing its kinetic
energy.
 According to different type of brake system ; brakes are
classified into two types (a) Drum brake ,(b) Disc brake.
 DRUM BRAKE : : In a drum brake driver need to push the
pedal , when driver push the pedal then the expander
expands the shoes & presses them to the drum. So that the
friction is appear b/w the brake drum and friction lining.

Drum Brake
 DISC BRAKE : In a disk brake , when the driver applies the
force on pedal. The shoes squeezes the rotating disk to stop
the car. The fluid from the master cylinder forces the pistons
to move in , towards the disc. This action pushes brake pads
tightly against the disc and the friction b/w the brake and
shoes retard or stops the vehicle depending upon the force
applied on the piston.

Disc Brake
 Master cylinder: A master cylinder is a reservoir for the
brake fluid, basically a master cylinder is a foot operated
hydraulic pump that sends the pressurize fluid , through the
brake line into brake caliper.

Master Cylinder
 A new technology introduce now day called anti-lock brake
system(ABS).
 ABS have a complex electric & hydraulic system which are used
to avoid the skidding of wheel in a sudden brake and also
preventing the controlled wheel become fully locked.
