LESSON 5

Concrete Reinforcement -
Continuation

Concrete Reinforcement
According to EC2, there are two types of concrete reinforcement:
BSt 500 M – mashes and BSt 500 S – rebars, with characteristic yield
strength fyk = 500 MPa. Steel reinforcement is manufactured in three
grades, all of 500 N/mm2 characteristic yield strength, but with
different ductility

Concrete Reinforcement

The designed yield strength fyd, are derived from the idealized
(characteristic) stresses fyk by dividing by the partial safety factor
for steel γs:

f yk
f yd 
S

Concrete Reinforcement

Welded fabric mashes can appear like Q (from German word –

Quadrat) and R (from German word – Rechteck). Q-mashes
have same distance between adjacent bars, while R-mashes
have different distance between adjacent bars. Mashes are
marked with one letter and number such as Q 335 or R 335.
Letter means the type of mash, while number means cross-
sectional area of bars in longitudinal way (in these cases
a=3,35cm2/m).

According to EC2, types of Q-mashes are:

Q 131, Q 188, Q 196, Q 257, Q 283, Q 335, Q 424, Q 503, Q 525, Q 785

According to EC2, types of R-mashes are:

R 131, R 257, R 335, R 424, R 503, R525

According to EC2, types of rebars are:

Φ = 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 25, 28, 32 [mm]
