HOUSE BILL
“AN ACT INCREASING THE
6152NORMAL WORK HOURS PER DAY UNDER THE
COMPRESSED WORK WEEK SCHEME, AMENDING ARTICLES 83, 87 AND 91 OF
PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 442, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE LABOR CODE OF THE
PHILIPPINES”

Key Provisions
• Amends Articles 83 (work
hours), 87 (overtime pay), and
91 (rest days) of the Labor
Code of the Philippines
COMPRESSED WORKWEEK
- The normal workweek is reduced
to less than six (6) days but the
total number of 48 work hours
per week shall remain. This is
without prejudice to firms whose
normal workweek is five (5) days,
or a total of forty (40) hours
based on the normal workday of
eight (8) hours.
Objectives:
• Provide employers the flexibility
to determine work schedule
compatible with business
requirements
• Improve company’s productivity
and competitiveness
• Promote employees’ need for a
balanced work life, work
efficiency and productivity
PROS CONS
• This shall be a voluntary act depending on the
employer’s business requirements • Increase number of working hours
per day
• There would be no diminution of salaries and
benefits

• There would be more rest days for the


employees

• Avoidance of horrendous traffic in the metro

• More time with the family

• Promote employee’s productivity

• Cut the cost of fuel

• Cut the cost transportation fare

• As of April 2017, 15, 215 employed
persons worked less than 40 hours
