• All TVET courses count towards your HSC units. However, only some courses count
towards an ATAR.

• Classes are traditionally held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2


pm to 6 pm. However some are offered on other days. This will vary according
to the agreement between your school and the Western Sydney TAFE college
offering the course you want to do.

• TVET courses carry the same requirements as normal school courses.


attendance is mandatory unless prior consent is given. Western Sydney
TAFE requirements vary for each individual TVET course and will be
clearly explained by the teacher at the start of your course.

Hairdressing
This practical course can help open up career opportunities within the
hairdressing industry. Students gain the knowledge and skills to work effectively
and safely in a hairdressing salon, including basic first-aid and an understanding
of industry regulation.

Other learning aspects cover:


• basic skills and techniques in hair colouring
• a range of reception tasks
• client relationships
• product sales
• basic elements and principles of hair design and styling.
The course runs for a full year

MAKEUP SERVICES
Students who like to be creative with make-up and make others look and feel
their best will enjoy this course. It provides introductory beauty
knowledge and skills, preparing students for work as a retail assistant or trainee
make-up artist. Students will develop the techniques they need
to work in a salon and perform make-up and other beauty related services.

Other learning aspects cover:


• develop technical and consultation skills
• design and apply make-up for a range of purposes & occasions
• Research trends
• product sales

Once you have successfully completed the Introduction
course in your first year and then the follow on units in
the course in your second year you will be eligible to
receive your Certificate III in Makeup Qualification

SCHOOL-BASED APPRENTICESHIPS
School-based apprenticeships allow high school students to commence an
apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while still at school. On average, a minimum
of one day a week is spent on the job with an employer, plus a portion of the school
holidays. For the rest of the school week, students complete the Western Sydney
TAFE component of their training as well as their other HSC subjects.
After completing Year 12, school-based apprentices can commence full-time
employment as a second year apprentice provided that they have successfully
completed the training program while at school.
