CODES AND CONVENTIONS

Vox pop =
The Voice Of People
WHAT IS IT?

• The interviewer will go to a public location (e.g. Town Centre) and

ask random members of the public for their personal opinions on
the chosen topic they are documenting.
• This process is usually informal
• You would usually ask around 5 people to get understanding of the
main opinion from society.
WHY?

• We include voxpops so the argument being encoded in the documentary isn’t

showing bias

• We are able to gather both supporting and opposing views and opinions
OTHER CODES + CONVENTIONS
• Don’t have the members of public looking directly into the camera – have them looking at the
interviewer asking the questions.
• Position them towards the edge of the frame either left or right but looking into the space
