Swarnajayanti Fellowships
Selected number of young scientists, with proven track
record, are provided special assistance and support to enable them to pursue
basic research in frontier areas of science and technology.

Nature of Support:
The fellowship is Rs. 10,000/- per month for those who draw salary. In addition to
fellowship, grants for equipment, computational and communication facilities,
consumables, contingencies, administrative support, national and international
travel and other special requirements will be covered.

Duration:
Fellowship for a period not exceeding five years.
Fellowship is for Scientists between 30 and 40 years.

Eligibility:
The applicant should possess Ph. D in Science / Engineering,
Scientists should be active in the frontier areas of science and engineering with
outstanding contributions, (research publications, peer recognition etc.) in his areas
of research.

Applications for the "Swarnajayanti Fellowships" are invited from eligible candidates

Ramanna Fellowships
Ramanna Fellowship is for continued core
financial support to those researchers who have
performed excellently well in their ongoing research
projects of SERB (viz. FAST TRACK Scheme for Young
Scientist, Women Scientists Scheme-S, SERB
Individual Research Projects, Nanoscience and
Technology Initiative projects and Swaranjayanti
Fellowship projects).

JC BOSE NATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS
The fellowship is to recognize active scientists and engineers for
their outstanding performance and contributions.
ELIGIBILITY:
 Indian Nationals residing in India who are below the age of 60 years.
 The applicant should possess a Ph.D. in Science/Engineering and must have carried out several years of
research work.
 These Fellowships are meant for those who have a proven track–record as evident from their research
 publications and recognitions.
 The candidate must have a regular position in an Institute and should be engaged in research.

DURATION: The duration of the fellowship is initially for five years.

NATURE OF SUPPORT:
 The value of the fellowship is Rs. 50,000 per month in addition to regular income.
 In addition, each Fellow will receive a contingency of Rs. 5.00 lakh per annum for conferences and other
expenses.

Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) -2010 of Science or Equity
Empowerment and Development (SEED)
Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi Coordinated by MACS –
Agharkar Research Institute, Pune
The Fellowship Scheme for Women Scientists for societal programmes is initiative of the
Department of Science & Technology. This scheme is addressed to women scientists and
Technologists who have “break in their careers” due to social responsibilities but have
desire to return to mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists

Objectives
 Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a
break in career, through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of
people in unorganized urban or rural areas.
Provide an opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant in societal
Programmes.

Project Proposals For


Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life
and provide additional opportunities for income generation in rural areas or urban slums.
Adaptation & transfer of an innovative technology developed at laboratory level to field.
Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas.

Nature of Support
Support will include a scholarship grant of Rs. 20,000 per month for a period of two
years for candidate with Ph. D., M. Tech., MS/MD and Rs. 15,000 per month for
candidates having post graduate degree for a period of two years. Grant for minor
equipment , consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be considered if
found necessary under the work plan.

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

CSIR is a premier R & D organization in India. Human Resource


Development Group (HRDG), a division of CSIR realized the objectives through
various grants.
The CSIR provides financial assistance to promote research work in the fields
of Science & Technology, including Agriculture, Engineering and Medicine.
There are numerous schemes cover a wide range of scientists aging from 15
to 65 years.
Priority is given to multi-disciplinary projects and to solve specific problems
pursued by CSIR laboratories.
Proposals of applied nature as well as basic science.
Funds provided are for JRF, SRF and RA, Contingencies and Equipment. Amounts for
Equipments are small.

Research proposals under the Extramural Research programme in


Mathematical Sciences from researchers working in
Universities, colleges, R&D Institutions, and Institutes of National
Importance.
Thrust areas:
Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research,
Theoretical Computer and Computational Sciences as well as emerging
applications of these areas to problems in physical, biological, engineering and
social sciences.

Shyama Prasad Mukherji Fellowship (SPMF) under
HRDG-CSIR
Objective
To nurture the budding scientific talent and to nourish the objective of pursuit of scientific research.

Scope: Pursuing Ph.D programme with a special fellowship in CSIR Labs/other specialized R&D
institutions/universities.

Nature of Fellowship
Stipend : Rs.16000/- + HRA per month (First Two + Contingency grant of Rs.70000/- p.a.
Rs.18000/- + HRA per month (third year onwards)

Duration: Initially for 2 years and maximum up to 5 years.

Eligibility
Around top 50 candidates in Mathematical Sciences

Selection Process
The eligible candidates shall be called for interview by a specially constituted panel of subject-experts for initial
screening. The short listed candidates after first interview will be further interviewed by a panel of SPMF
Core Committee members and subject- committee chairmen for making final recommendations. The
process is likely to be completed by 3rd week of July every year.

list for JRF (NET) and will send letters to them and to the eligible GATE applicants enclosing the relevant

NBHM Research Scholarships

National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) was set up by


the Government of India under the Department of Atomic
Energy (DAE), to foster the development of higher mathematics
in the country
Functions
 Formulate policies for the development of mathematics
 Help in the establishment and development of mathematical
centres
 Give financial assistance to research projects and to doctoral
and postdoctoral scholars.
 NBHM functions essentially autonomously framing its own
budget taking into account the funds made available by DAE.

For international conference: 1,50,000/-

Visiting Professorship:
Monthly honorarium ranging between Rs. 16,000/- and Rs. 20,000/-

Instructional Schools:
• Organizes instructional schools periodically in areas of mathematics of current
interest. The aim of such schools is to expose mathematicians as well young
students working for their Ph.D. degrees to these areas of mathematics. The
proposals for these Schools need to be submitted in a given proforma and
must the following information:
• Topic or area of mathematics
• Names of speakers and
• Expected number of participants
• The school is expected to last for three to four weeks. All expenses towards
TA/DA for participants and speakers are borne by NBHM according to
Government norms.

• In-house Research Projects: In its pursuit to extend the frontiers of knowledge on entrepreneurship,

RESEARCH PROPOSALS ON STRATEGIC ECONOMIC ISSUES
under the Strategic & Economic Capacity-building
Programme (SECP), sponsored by the
Macarthur Foundation

The focus of the SECP project is on international and strategic


issues of the future, especially in the Asian context, such as
those relating to external policy, global
governance, regional economic cooperation etc.

Selected researchers will have six months to produce the paper under the
guidance of an expert mentor of international standing.

The papers, on satisfactory completion, will be suitably disseminated through


workshops / publications. The papers carry an honorarium of INR 1,00,000
(Indian Rupees One Lakh only), and the possibility of a nominal travel
grant.
