Challenges in working with BOM and CAD
Value-Added Activities:
– Value-added activities:
• Enable the team to focus on meeting the requirements of the
customer.
• Let the designer and engineer focus on the product and the
customer, not the tool

Solutions for creating
the EBOM
• Contains the historical, current and planned information that supports the
design, planning, production, and support of your products.
– How they are designed
– How they are built
– History of decisions
Bottom Up
• Goal -
– Deliver more flexibility to user working with product structure
driven from CAD data
– Enable user outside of CAD tools to work with CAD driven
product structure
• Purpose Toggle
– Handing assemblies that are for modeling only gathering part
on/off
– Elevating its children in the BOM
• Product Structure
– Identified with special part icon
– Controlled by Part attribute
• Edit Common Attributes toggle on/off
– Ability to initially set using CAD attribute
• BoM reports
– Excluded from BOM reports Toggle
– Children of gathering part maintained gathering part
on/off
– Children elevated up a level in BoM
Sub-asm_1 excluded

comp_4.rt elevated
to 1stst level
• Changing Quantities
– Including for CAD built
occurences
• Capabilities:
– Simultaneously create or reuse existing part and
associated CAD structures
– Create and validate conceptual design structures Capture Design Intent
in PLM
– Create or reuse skeletons to drive design intent
(i.e. interfaces, keep out areas, etc.) in CAD
– Concurrently design subassemblies in CAD and
synchronize updates with associated product
structures Communicate Design

Improve Build Process to Create a Single Uses Link for Flexible Components
Currently, 2 CAD Doc associated with the same Part AND both CAD Docs are
assembled into the same CAD model, result in build process creates 2 usage links to
the same Part.

Mass Change – Windchill 10.2 M030
Capabilities
- Provide the ability to update the CAD
structure when changing the Part structure
- Capability includes Replace, Insert and
Remove
- Location and other information now
preserved when Replace action is done
- Enhanced feedback on Mass Change
Preview step
- Mass WIP actions on Change tables,
Folders and Search
Benefits
- Reduced overhead & time on reflecting a
part change to its multiple parent part
structure and the associated CAD
structure
- Reduced overhead on locating replaced
parts to correct position. Location
information is preserved after Mass
Change
- Improve user satisfaction on daily
operations © 2014 PTC Proprietary & Confidential Forward looking information subject to change without notice 27

• Simplify the creation BOM attribute mappings for ECAD easier for the end
users.
– A user currently is not able to easily create a CSV file to load into the UI without
knowing the pvecad2pvsd command line arguments, neither is a user able to
manually enter values in the UI.
Solution:
• BOM Attributes Mapping
– Ability to select an ECAD Design item such as a project file or board file when executing
the Load action in BOM Attributes Mapping Editor. The WWGM shall execute the
pvecad2pvs utility in the background. The resulting CSV file shall be loaded and the end
user shall be able to select the design attributes in the UI as implemented today.

• Knowledge capture and reuse • Establish a product development • Product development productivity
platform based on PTC Creo and PTC improved by 50%
• Improve design reuse rate Windchill
• Reduce design changes • Parts reuse improvement of 80%
• Standardize product design processes
and methods based on PTC Creo and • Design changes were reduced by
