What Is An Adverb?
 Adverb is a word that is used
to change or qualify the
meaning of an adjective, a
verb, a clause, another
adverb, or any other type of
word or phrase with the
exception of determiners and
adjectives that directly
modify nouns.

The Types Of an Adverb
● Manner-It describes which manner an action
happen
● Place-It shows where an action happen
● Time-It describes when an action happen
● Frequency -It shows how many times an
action is done
● Degree or Quantity-It tells us about the intensity
of something
Some adverbs and adverb phrases describe
the way people do things.

Examples:
 The girls answered all the questions correctly.
 The plane landed safely.

 Ahmad plays guitar skillfully.

 She was driving carelessly.

 The team played wonderfully.


 Some adverbs and adverbs phrases answer
the question “where?”
They are called adverbs of place.

Examples:
 The boys are playing upstairs.
 The dog is in the garden.
 He is sitting near the wall.
 They were flying kites on the top of hill.
 He lives somewhere in New York.
 These adverbs tell us about the time of
action.
e.g. now, then, soon, tomorrow,
yesterday.

Examples:
 We shall now begin to work.
 He called here a few minutes ago.
 He got up early in the morning.
 Mr. Jones formerly lived here.
 She is still waiting for her brother.
 Adverbs of frequency tell us how many times
the action occurs or occurred or will occur.
e.g. daily, sometimes, often, seldom, usually.

Examples:
 The children always go to school on the bus.
 I’ll never make that mistake again.
 Dad polishes his shoes twice a week.
 He goes to school daily.
 It shows how much, or in what degree or to
what extent.

Examples:
 I am rather busy.
 I am fully prepared.
 The mangos are almost ripe.
