PROJECT TYPE:
Rivers cape, River Front Development.
INTRODUCTION:
Human civilizations and cultures have grown on
river banks. Agrarian India cultures reveres rivers
as life-giving mothers. Development of human
culture is closely related to river valleys and the
civilizations assumed names of the rivers that
supported them to grow, flourish, possibly as a
gesture showing their respect.
There is no celebration dedicated to these rivers-
saying “Thank You” to them. Instead, They are
turned into the gutters. The city ‘Delhi”, has the
riverside left the riverside either to encroach, dump
or just to decay. Nowadays, The urban stretches of
the Mula and Mutha are left to support no form of
life-forget a culture.
Obviously the opportunity is still not lost. There is
time for every citizen to do his or her bit for the
river- though they are not our lifelines in the
traditional sense. They still can provide a space for
stress bursting fresh air, To sit a while and dream
or just to walk in, for children to play and for all of
us to under rivers.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
To develop a Multidimensional Environmental
Improvement, Social Upliftment and Urban
Rejuvenation Project.
Make the riverfront accessible to the public.
Stop the flow of sewage, keep the river clean and
pollution free .
Reducing the fear of erosion and flooding in
flood prone neighborhoods create riverfront
parks, promenades and Ghats to enjoy the
water.
To demonstrate a model for strategic and
sustainable interventions in the riverfront, The
Indraprastha Power Station site has been
chosen as a pilot project.
Introduction of recreational use in the form of
cultural use, active sports use and casual
recreational landscape use to the proposed
function by the Zonal Development Plan –
“recreation and ghat”.
Main objectives:
To understand what makes the process of
Urban waterfront revitalization successful and
sustainable.
TO develop a method for comparative
assessment of successful Urban waterfront
revitalization.
To develop a planning/design framework for
sustainable urban water revatilazation.
METHODOLOGY:
Understand the evolution of the city and the river.
Understand the character of the river for the city.
Study the selected site in relation with the city and
vice versa.
Developing the zones and spaces.
Understanding the change in land use and effects
of the changes.
Correct the old city to new city and give river back
to its city.
SCOPE AND LIMITITATIONS:
Delhi is the Capital of India, has lots of impacts on
people and accordingly on the spaces because of
religious and ongoing customs. Thus strategic planning
of space to space to fulfill and enhance cultural, civic,
religious and contemporary space is the ambition of the
scope.
Although the ambition is to provide spaces at an urban
level, a stretch of 0.8 km. has been identified out of
15 kms of the river stretch through the city.
As design development is concerned. Immerse thought
has been put in framing out of the Master Plan,
meanwhile to give an identified and intended character,
individual spaces have been explained just to
understand the building form and layout.
