THE CELL

6th Grade
Science
Learning Objective 1
First term 2018
Boston International School
Objective:
To recognize living things and their main features, to value the importance
of our bodies.

Learning objective: Identifying the importance of the cell and the

function of its parts.

Biblical principle: We are God’s perfect creation

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he
him; male and female created he them.
BOSTON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
CLASS RULES

Remember that we do it all for the Lord:

Colossians 3:17
New King James Version (NKJV)
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him
Whole brain teaching
Rule 1: Listen when your teacher is talking
Rule 2: Follow directions quickly
Rule 3: Respect others. Respect yourself. Respect your
school
Rule 4: Raise your hand to speak or stand
Rule 5: Be safe, Be kind, Be honest for the glory of God
BOSTON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
CLASS RULES

• Boston International School

Rule 6: Use English at all times, it is the only way to improve.
Rule 7: Do not translate what your teacher says, please.
Rule 8: Take risks and learn from your mistakes.
MENDING ORIENTED ACTIONS
• If the students take the motivation to misbehave he/she will
less from 1 to ten points of his/her participation mark.
• If the students distract others he/she has to talk in front of the
class and apologize.
• If the students frequently have a bad behavior will be notified
in the folder of behavior.
PORTFOLIO (Divided by terms and it’s a grade)

• Cover (Name, grade, likes, dislikes, class

objectives)
• PDE copies (If necessary)
• Dictations
• Worksheets
• Extra Credits
• Final Exams
• Quizzes
PROJECT:
"Inside the cell"
Instructions:
• Each student will present a cell model with the cell parts (small
size), please don’t use a scale model work on poster paper or a
piece of paper.
• Students will write a fantasy story based on the parts of the cell.
• The story will be read in class.
• Each student will comment on the activity in class.
• Compare the importance of the cell and the Holy Spirit in our life

Group: 1- 4 people
Due date March 1 to 9
Date: February 14th,2018
The Cell
• All living things are made up of cells.
• Cells are the smallest working units of all living things.
• All cells come from preexisting cells through cell
division.

Cell Parts
Organelles
Surrounding the
Cell
Cell Membrane

• Outer membrane of cell

that controls movement in
and out of the cell
• Double layer

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Cell Wall

• Most commonly found

in plant cells & bacteria
• Supports & protects cells

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Inside the Cell
• The cell nucleus is a membrane bound structure that
contains the cell's hereditary information and controls the
cell's growth and reproduction. It is the command center
of a eukaryotic cell and is commonly the most
prominent organelle in a cell.
• Distinguishing Characteristics
• The cell nucleus is bound by a double membrane called
the nuclear envelope. This membrane separates the
contents of the nucleus from the cytoplasm.
Nucleus
• Directs cell activities
• Separated from cytoplasm by nuclear membrane
• Contains genetic material - DNA
Nuclear Membrane

• Surrounds nucleus
• Made of two layers
• Openings allow material
to enter and leave
nucleus

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Chromosomes

• In nucleus
• Made of DNA
• Contain instructions for
traits & characteristics

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Nucleolus

• Inside nucleus
• Contains RNA to build
proteins

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Cytoplasm
• Gel-like mixture
• Surrounded by cell membrane
• Contains hereditary material
Endoplasmic Reticulum
• Moves materials around in
cell
• Smooth type: lacks
ribosomes
• Rough type (pictured):
ribosomes embedded in
surface

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Ribosomes

• Each cell contains

thousands
• Make proteins
• Found on ribosomes &
floating throughout the
cell

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Mitochondria
• Produces energy through
chemical reactions – breaking
down fats & carbohydrates
• Controls level of water and
other materials in cell
• Recycles and decomposes
proteins, fats, and
carbohydrates

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Golgi Bodies

• Protein 'packaging plant'

• Move materials within
the cell
• Move materials out of
the cell

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Lysosome
• Digestive 'plant' for
proteins, fats, and
carbohydrates
• Transports undigested
material to cell membrane
for removal
• Cell breaks down if
lysosome explodes

http://library.thinkquest.org/12413/structures.html
Vacuoles
• Membrane-bound sacs
for storage, digestion,
and waste removal
• Contains water solution
• Help plants maintain
shape

Chloroplast

• Usually found in plant

cells
• Contains green
chlorophyll
• Where photosynthesis
takes place

TOPIC: TISSUES
CELL TISSUE ORGAN SYSTEM
Cells, Tissues, Organs,
and Systems
• A cell is the smallest unit of living matter; the building blocks
of living things.
• Tissues are groups of cells working together to perform a
certain job.
• Organs are groups of tissues that perform a certain function.
• Organs working together to carry out a certain life function
are an organ system.
workshop
Write the number of each kind of cell in the circle of the matching function.

JESUS’ CHARACTER
Principle of the month: 2018 year of the generational renewal
Based on:Isaiah 11:1-2 New King James Version (NKJV)
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,

The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
Song of the month:
No longer slaves ( Let’s talk to our kids about the deliverance power we
have in prayer)
