Problem

A western shop wishes to purchase 300 felt and 200

straw cowboy hats. Bids have been received from the
wholesalers. Beta Hatters has Agreed to supply not
more than 200 hats, Kappa Hatters not more than 250,
Delta Hatters not more than 150. The owner of the shop
has estimated that his profit per hat sold from Beta
Hatters would be ₱ 30/felt and ₱ 40/straw, from Kappa
Hatter ₱ 38/felt and ₱ 35/straw, and from Delta Hatter
₱ 40/felt and ₱ 36/straw. Set up a linear programming
problem to maximize the owner’s profit.
Required
0 Set up a linear programming problem to maximize the
owner’s profit
Given
Let x1 = cost of the felt
x2 = cost of the straw

Beta Hatters : ₱ 30/felt and ₱ 40/straw

Kappa Hatters : ₱ 38/felt and ₱ 35/straw
Delta Hatters : ₱ 40/felt and ₱ 36/straw

Beta Hatters : not more than 200

Kappa Hatters : not more than 250
Delta Hatters : not more than 150

Objective Function: P = 300x1 + 200x2

Constraints
0 1:
30x1 + 40x2 ≤ 200
0 2:
38x1 + 35x2 ≤ 250
0 3:
40x1 + 36x2 ≤ 150

x1 , x2 ≥0
Solution
0 Equation 1:
When x1 = 0 , x2 = 5
When x2 = 0 , x1 = 20/3
0 Equation 2:
When x1 = 0 , x2 = 50/7
When x2 = 0 , x1 = 125/19
0 Equation 3:
When x1 = 0 , x2 = 25/6
When x2 = 0 , x1 = 15/4
