Emotion of research

Emotion of research

Ready: prepared for what is going to happen;

Empty: containing nothing, lacking emotion, interest, or purpose;
Sorrowful: feeling, expressing, or causing terrible sadness;
Excited: very happy and enthusiastic because something good is going
to happen, especially when this makes you unable to relax, upset,
worried, or angry about something;
Alone: without anyone with you, lonely feeling that you have no friends
and that no one cares about you, without any help;
Rough: not smooth, difficult and with a lot of problems;
Consistent: not changing in behavior, attitudes, or qualities, continuing
or developing steadily in the same way;
Hopeless: if a situation is hopeless, it seems very unlikely to succeed
or improve, feeling or showing no hope. 6 of 36
Get prepared

Laying the foundation

 Preparedness: related work, thoughts, questions, hypotheses,
assumptions, tools, links, colleagues, and advisors;
 Weak and strong aspects;
 Plan…
Never giving up
 Belief;
 Valor;
 Endurance.

How to read?

Categories
 For entertainment;
 For simple ideas or technical information;
 For comprehension, evaluation, and comparison;
 For study and learning new discipline.
What next after reading?
 Summarize by your own way (level-1: Re-presentation);
 Give an example or a picture (level-2: Interpretation);
 List clear (right) and unclear (wrong) things (level-3: Analysis);
 Link to what you did read before (level-4: Evaluation & Comparison);
 Find someone to discuss with (level-5: You are the author).

How to read?

What to note?
 Concepts and backgrounds;
 Hypotheses, assumptions;
 Problems, ideas, models, solutions;
 Key questions;
 Convincing conclusions;
 Presentation: vocabularies, sentences.
How to note?
 I do not know!

How to read?

What is creative thinking of reading?

 Not an activity, but an ability;
 Not a bored voice, but tempo and emotion;
 Not text, but audio/video;
 Not book/paper, but A DIALOGUE between you (student), yourself
(teacher), and the author.

Analytic thinking

Thinking?
 An opinion or set of ideas;
 Able to consider things carefully and understand what is important;
 The way/process of considering things or reacting to them.

Analytic thinking

Correct? Solve?

 It is quite correct if…;  No analysis;

 It is quite incorrect because…  No thinking;
 Change to correct;  No education;
 ....  …

The art of question

Questions of goal and objective

 What is the goal of the paper, authors?
 What is the objective of the proposed solution?
 Why do the authors apply this solution?
 Who need this solution?

20 of 36
The art of question

Questions about question

 Is this the best question raised in the paper?
 What does the question of the authors mean?
 Might I raise a question in this way… or that way…?
 How to answer to this question?

21 of 36
The art of question

Questions about information, experience, evidence,…

 Is the information/experience/evidence in this paper right?
 How to ensure that the information/experience/evidence is right?
 Is there any information/experience/evidence missed?
 How to investigate this information/experience/evidence?

22 of 36
The art of question

Questions about inferences and conclusions

 How to come to this inference/conclusion?
 Is there any better inference/conclusion?
 How the inference/conclusion changes if we change the
assumptions?

23 of 36
The art of question

Questions about assumptions

 Why do the authors assume that…?
 Is this assumption reasonable?
 Is the given assumption enough?

Assume that

The art of question

What is creative thinking of question?

 Questioning instead of answering;
 For deeper thinking;
 For accessing subconscious;
 A question for everything.

Critical thinking

Why?
 Analyze and evaluate for better achievement;
 Enable what to believe or do.
How?
 Raise the right questions & real problems clearly & accurately;
 Collect & evaluate related work to explain & prove efficiently;
 Propose convincing conclusions & solutions investigated by proper
criteria;
 Open thinking in an efficient and equal behavior.

Critical thinking

A critical thinker will not see

 All the things are in black and white;
 All the answers to all the questions are Y/N;
 All the things are separated from each other;
 All of their facts/ perspectives are the only relevant and sensible
ones;

 Information about a particular discipline/issue/problem,…;
 Convincing the readers of new and important viewpoint, conclusion,
solutions,…
Who write?
 Writer, scientist, student, journalist,…
Who read?
 All people, students, teachers, scientists,…

Communication in Mobile Cellular Networks”
Or this:

Abstract
 Further describe the Title;
 Shortened version of Introduction section.

How to write?

Introduction
 Introduce the context of a related particular discipline and the title;
 Related work, problems, motivations, and solutions with some
terminology and examples if needed.
