Fig. 1: Sixth sense technology

All are aware of the five basic senses - seeing, feeling,

smelling, tasting and hearing. But there is also another
sense called the sixth sense.
3
Contd..,
The neck worn projector and camera combination was first
proposed by MIT student Steve Mann.

The concept was further developed by Pranav Mistry.

It integrates digital information into the physical world and

making the entire world your computer.

CAMERA

Fig. 5: Camera
Captures an object in view and tracks the user’s hand
gestures.

It sends the data to smart phone.

It acts as a digital eye, connecting user to the world of digital

information. 7
SMART PHONE

Fig. 6: Smart Phone

The smartphone in user pockets transmit and receive

voice and data anywhere and to anyone via the mobile
internet. 8
PROJECTOR

Fig. 7: Projector

The projector projects visual information enabling

surfaces and physical objects to be used as interfaces.

The project itself contains a battery inside, with 3 hours

of battery life. 9
MIRROR

Fig. 8: Mirror

The mirror reflects image on to the desired surface.

WORKING

APPLICATIONS
The following are few of the applications of sixth sense technology.
Make a call
Call up a map

Check the time

Take pictures

Drawing application

Play games

Create multimedia reading experiences

Get product information 12

Zooming features
Make a call

Fig. 10: Make a call

The Sixth Sense to project a keypad onto user hand,

then use that virtual keypad to make a call.
13
Call up a map

Fig. 11: Map

With the map application user can call up the map.

Then use thumbs and index fingers to navigate the map.

14
Check the time

Fig. 12: Wrist watch

Draw a circle on user wrist to get a virtual watch that

gives the correct time.
15
Take pictures

If user index fingers and

thumbs into a square, the
system will snap a photo.

After taking the desired

number of photos, that can
project them onto a surface.

16

Drawing application

Fig. 14: Drawing

The user draw on any surface by tracking the fingertip

movements of the user’s index finger.
17
Play games

Fig. 15: Playing car racing game

Play game in single paper, camera understood how the

user holds the paper.
18
Create multimedia reading experiences

Fig. 16: Video in newspaper

User is interacting with by projecting more information

about these objects projected on them.
19
Get product information

Fig. 17: Book information

Sixth sense uses image recognition to recognize

products user pick up, then feeds the information on those
20
products.
21
ADVANTAGES

It integrates digital information into the physical world and

making the entire world your computer.

Information and turns any surface into an interactive display.

It is portable and easy to carry as user can wear it in his neck.

It uses hand gestures to interact with digital information.

Supports multi-touch and multi-user interaction.

Data access directly from machine in real time. 22

DISADVANTAGES

Health Issues : Projection is not better in morning and bright

areas.

Security : As data projected on any surface anyone can see any

others data.

The projector working battery life is very less only 3hrs.

It can't use an android mobile as a computing device. It has to be

a windows running device.

23
CONCLUSION
The sixth sense technology will remove the difficult task of
carrying our laptops or any other devices which are very
heavy.

The device which is a pendant shaped, it’s light and easy to

carry and easy access to any information.

Now trying to make out a 3-D interface with the help of this
device. 24
