INTRODUCTION

• Increasing the bearing capacity is an important parameter for

structural cases as well as the cases of roadway or pavement.
• Sometimes structure fails or sometimes pavement fails due to low
strength of soil strata lies below the foundation or soil strata of sub
base.
• Besides if the sand can be stabilized deep foundation for low raised
building can be avoided and thus construction cost reduced.

Sand Stabilization

• Sand stabilization is the process of improving the engineering

properties of the sand and thus making it more stable.
• Sand is generally stabilized to increase their strength and durability to
prevent erosion and dust formation in soils.
• The most common improvements achieved through stabilization
include better sand gradation, reduction of plasticity index or swelling
potential and increases in durability and strength.

5
Objective

•To compare the strength of sands in different percentages of

cement.
•To strengthen the sands and make it more stable.
•To reduce the construction cost by making best use of
locally available materials.

6
Study Area

To perform Sand Stabilization using Cement the Sand samples

were obtained from Betagi,Dhol,Fatikchari,Manikchari,Kalurghat
and Sylhet region of Bangladesh.

7
Sand Stabilization With Traditional Stabilizers

 Port land cement

 Lime
 Fly ash
 Bitumen & Tar

8
Sand Stabilization With Non-Traditional Stabilizers

 Polymers based products

 Copolymer based products
 Fiber reinforcement
 Calcium chloride
 Sodium chloride

9
Cement

Cement is a kind of Binding material which is manufactured

through a closely controlled chemical combination of
calcium, silicon, aluminum, iron and other ingredients.

10
Why Using of Cement

Cement quickly improves the Sand condition. Adding Cement

can causes three major sand improvements—

Sand drying- Reducing the sand moisture content.

Sand modification- Reducing sand plasticity, adding compaction and increase early strength.
Bearing Capacity- Increasing long term strength/bearing capacity.

Result and Discussion
Possible outcome of the Research

The study behind the research is to –

Comparison of the sands from different construction sites.

Enhance the sand physical properties.

Increase the shear strength of sand and improving the load bearing
capacity of sub-grade sand.

Improves the soil structure sufficiently which results in cost savings.
