Introduction

 Obesity is a rising concern in todays world

 BMI is a tool which determines the physical index of human being
 According to Indian standards,
 <18.5 : Underweight ; 18.5 – 22.9 : Normal
 23 – 24.9 : Overweight ; >25 : Obese
 This study aims to find relationship between BMI and different lifestyle
factors
Methodology

 Survey – Questionnaire consisting lifestyle choices was floated to 152 students

 Sampling – Simple random sampling was done to choose the sample space
 Statistical Analysis
 Shapiro-Wilks Normality test
 T-test for the test of difference
Statistical Analysis

 Shapiro-Wilks Normality test

 Response variable – BMI
 Independent variable – Age, Eating habits, Sleep pattern, Physical activities and
Leisure activities
 Ho – BMI data is normally distributed significantly with respect to the
independent variables
 Ha – BMI data is not normally distributed significantly with respect to the
independent variables
 Hypothesis is based on critical value (α) = 0.05
 P-value > 0.05 (Ho not rejected)
 P-value < 0.05 (Ho rejected)
 Normality test result

 Ho not rejected since p-value > 0.05

 Thus BMI is normally distributed with respect to
different age groups
One sample T-test

 The distribution being normal, we used parametric T-test to find the

relationship between BMI and independent variables
 Ho – BMI is not affected by different independent factors for e.g. Eating habits
– different categories of breakfast
 Ha – BMI is affected by different independent factors
 Critical value (α) = 0.1
Result

 According to the T-test, Indian

veg and Non veg Lunch
category prove to be
significantly affecting the BMI
of the sample
 Since P-value is less than 0.1
(90% Confidence limit)
One sample T-test results

Conclusion

 It is seen that Indian non veg and Indian veg dinner as eating habit
significantly affects BMI
 People with less physical activity and indulging in more leisure time tend to
have higher BMI
 Less than 6 hours of sleep also significantly affects the BMI
 Thus, in this study we find that different kind of lifestyle determines your BMI
thereby physicality
Recommendation

 In order to maintain a proper BMI, we recommend as follows

 Eating habit according to diet plan
 Sleeping atleast for 6 hours per day
 Increase in various outdoor activities
