Early Life
• Jay Pritzker was born on Aug. 26, 1922, to Fanny Doppelt and Abram Nicholas Pritzker
• Jay Pritzker had a major in accounting
• Completed his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1941.
• Completed his graduation in law from Northwestern University Law School in 1947
• Initially worked in Chicago law firm, now called Pritzker & Pritzker
• Also had taken part in World War II as a naval aviator.
Career Highlights
• He diversified the business of family business of law firm“Prizker & Prizker”
• Entered hospitality business with his brother in 1957 and Established Hyatt Hotels international.
• Onwned “Braniff Airlines’’ from 1983-1988
• Created “Pretizker Architecture Prize” in 1979 known as Nobel prize of hoteling industry.
Story of Purchasing Hyatt Hotels
• Once he tried to book into a hotel
• Discovered it was full and for sale and scented a bargain.
• The hotel's owner, Hyatt von Dehn, agreed to a price of $2.2m.
• Jay Pritzker adid not have his cheque-book handy, so he wrote a cheque on a napkin.

History & Growth of Hyatt

• 1957- First Hyatt House was adjacent to the Los Angeles International Airport.
• 1969- Hyatt opened its first hotel outside the United States, the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong.
• 1980- The Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt brands were introduced & it also started resort hotels, starting
with the Hyatt Regency Maui.
• 2004- Substantially all of the hospitality assets owned by Pritzker family business interests, including
Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt International Corporation, were consolidated under a single entity called
Global Hyatt Corporation.
• 2005-Hyatt Hotels Corporation acquired AmeriSuites
• The AmeriSuites chain was rebranded and called Hyatt Place.
History & Growth of Hyatt

• 2009- Global Hyatt Corporation changed its name to Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
• 2011- Hyatt acquired Hotel Sierra, which has 18 properties in 10 states.
• 2012- Along with Hyatt Summerfield Suites hotels, several of those properties
• were rebranded as Hyatt house in January.
• 31 December 2014- Hyatt Corporation's worldwide portfolio consisted of 587 properties.
• 2013- Hyatt introduced their first all-inclusive resort brands, Ziva and Hyatt Zilara.
• 2015- Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara offer all inclusive accommodations in Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and
Rose Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica. October 28, 2015, Hyatt announced that they were in advanced talks to acquire
Starwood Hotels in a cash and stock transaction.
