Objective 1: describe a limiting behaviour of a function of x, as x approaches a given number.

Objective 2: use limit notation.

Objective 3: evaluate limits using simple limit theorems

Objective 5: apply the concept of left and right-handed limits to continuity. Definition of continuity.
Graphs of continuous functions.
A function is continuous if the left hand limit is equal to the right hand limit.
Give the definition of continuity from pg 358 of Pure Mathematics Unit 1 text and do example 24.

Objective 6: identify the points for which a function is discontinuous. Discontinuous graphs.

A function that is not continuous is said to be discontinuous. A function is discontinuous if:

 The right hand and left hand limits are not equal.
 𝑓 𝑥 is not defined.
 lim 𝑓 𝑥 ≠ 𝑓 𝑎
𝑥→𝑎
