ANALYSIS OF STATICALLY
INDETERMINATE BEAM
Two (2) methods covered in Chapter 5:
1. Slope-deflection method
2. Moment-distribution method
Procedure
• Slope Deflection Method • Moment Distribution Method
a) Determine end fixed moment, moment from
slope at the support, and moment from support
settlement. a) Determine the strength in every member
b) Determine slope at support b) Determine the distribution factor
c) Determine moment at support c) Determine the carry over factor
d) Determine fixed end moment
e) Conduct the moment distribution
process and carry over process
f) Determine moment at support
SLOPE DEFLECTION
b.
Slope or rotation that occurred at beam’s end will produce moment. This moment is
in opposite direction with direction of the rotation.
Fixed end moment (FEM): is defined as moment resultant when both its ends are fixed
(rotation at ends are zero).
Moment of Slope (MS)
MS at end B if end C is fixed:
MSBC
MSCB
Moment of Support Displacement (MSD)
Therefore moment resultant for support B in member BC is:
